Hi :) I want to DIY a haneri. What length and width should it have? My Nagajuban collar is 165 cm long and the width is according to the video "How to Make a Kimono Undergarment" (14cm > 10,4 cm). Thank you 😊

I need to get silk thread ! And the kakehari. Thank you for the great tips. I’ve always sewn it with just regular thread. Love your videos ❤️

Yes, a kakehari is a very useful item!! Silk thread is better for nagajuban and haneri, you should try that. Thanks for your comment! ♡

Thank you! That was very helpful. I used to always sew my Han-eri as part of last minute kimono prep and I didn’t even know where to start. So it would usually end up looking pretty messy...

puchmarnyk thank you!! I could have done this tutorial a little better... but still glad when it’s helping. I btw only have white haneri and only change them, after they became dirty. Do you often change colors?
@puchmarnyk5 жыл бұрын
Billy Matsunaga I own just a couple of colored haneri, but I tend to mostly wear white... can’t go wrong with white haha

I feel you! Especially when you also wear lots of white tabi, it just makes the whole outfit round from toe to neck 😉

Thank you Billy! That was a great video! I just bought a nagajuban that needs a haneri sewn on! A question, when the haneri becomes dirty, do you unstitch it and wash it and stitch it back on again?
@BillyMatsunaga6 жыл бұрын
iloveragdollcats yup, I unstitch it and see it on again. You can’t wash a silk haneri tho. I’m always adjusting it this the dirty parts are hidden and only white parts show up. When it’s really dirty after times of reusing it, I’ll get it cleaned at a professional cleaner’s for kimono stuff.

Billy, how do you feel about a midnight purple haneri or would that be too close to black?
@Alienne43 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason not to use a sewing machine with a wide stitch to attach a haneri? I’d like to feel confident that I can change my haneri often according to my tastes... none of the pieces I have are particularly vintage or expensive, and it just seems quicker and more fun to use my sewing machine. I could carefully use a stitch ripper when I want to change it. I know maybe this is just a shocking idea ^_^;; but is there a practical reason not to do it?

The reason silk thread is used in kimono is because it breaks instead of ripping the fabric. But the haneri won't get stuck on something the same way a sleeve would, so I guess the only problem would be the needle making holes in the silk. That and you loose the invisible stitches in the back. Otherwise I don't see a reason why not to use the machine if you prefer it :)

Billy, can I ask how to make a nagajuban? or any kimono undergarment. THanks!!!

I do it in a very clumsy way hahaha😅 I'll try to do it more clean next time, as you show in your video. But maybe I'll need some tools that I don't have yet. Thank you for your teachings! I'm looking forwad for your next video. 😍 P.S. : I love your shibori yukata. Is it taylor-made?😍😍

I'm a perfectionist. Haha! Yes, I made this yukata by myself (coz I'm studying the art of wasai, too). :) And I'm super in love with this one!
