I love this grocery bag. I would probably add a draw string to mine to prevent the groceries falling out of the bag while in the trunk. Perfect size and a practical bag. I love it!! Going to make me 2 of them.

Great video thanks so much for sharing. What I really love about your video was that you showed the completed project at the beginning - hardly anyone has the common sense to do this and you gave really clear instructions, which I loved too. To help me with my makes I also write brief notes of the instructions in a Word document and capture screen shots of the video so I can use it as a quick reference guide in the future, I always include the link to the KZbin clip so I can always find it again.

Thanks for the instructions! I made a smaller 1 gallon all waterproof polyester version to tuck away into a canoe to be used as a bailing bucket. It works good enough. Folds up neatly and the straps are sturdy and grippy so we don't lose it in the water.

For extra strength, I would add an additional stitching line on the bottom edge 1/16 of an inch from the original. Then I would press that seam open before you stitch the bag together and stitch 1/4 inch from the seam. This leaves a nice flat bottom for both the bag and the lining. It also helps make the boxed corners crisp. And lots of extra security.

That is a great addition Candace!

I really like this bag, but I'm wondering if it might be better to use the waterproof fabric as the lining on the INSIDE. That way you have all the benefits of using the waterproof fabric, but you are still free to use whatever decorative fabric you like on the outside.

I would love to see if you could possibly try those canvas tote bag with multiple compartments for tumblers and labtops etc.
@starkravenwild7913 ай бұрын
Going to try and make this from salvaged materials. We get pallets of goods from shein, amazon, target etc at the stores here in Panama. It's better to salvage these items to keep them out of the landfill. The fabric stores here have cheap fabric meaning poor quality from overseas. Getting quality materials is tricky and shipping is expensive. I can harvest canvas from old coats, maybe make it water resistant from some plastic/vinyl clothes/tablecloths or pliable leather? and salvage handles from old webbing belts/backpack handles. We have to use totes at most of the stores here, its bring your own. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi heather, I would suggest going to your local fabric store and asking what they may have for a comparison. Perhaps an outdoor fabric would work? It may not be waterproof but perhaps water resistant! Hope you can find something that works. And happy sewing!!!

This looks lovely. I'm just curious, though - I don't care about leak-proof and I don't care about the loveliness of the two-tone color. It looks like the bottom plastic-canvas is optional?
@TamarasJoyDIY10 ай бұрын
Absolutely! It’s a total option to add it. If you wanted to have a stiffer bag you could use fusible fleece interfacing to give it some extra support. Otherwise I recommend sf101 or if you are good with a floppy bag then no interfacing is an option as well. Happy sewing Cindy!

The link to the webbing doesn’t show the exact one you used. Is it possible to update the link to go directly to just cotton polyester webbing?
@TamarasJoyDIY Жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, My struggle with amazon is that the links change all the time, so I try to explain in the search portion exactly what I use so it pops up the most current product in your country. But you can use any straps really. I just don't like the full poly ones because they look shiny, even though it really doesn't matter. Hope that helps! Happy Sewing :)
