thank you very much for the video. I did leatherwork in high school. and have done numerous knife sheaths, and small projects like that over the years...but recently, when I couldn't see my fiancé due to Covid lockdown, I had found a pattern for a nice skirt, and sewed her a leather skirt to wear when we go out, or when she needed to dress up for school (as she's a teacher)... I'd got it completed, but did NOT know how to sew a zipper into it to finish it (that was all I needed to do to finish the garment). I found this video, and have successfully completed sewing in my FIRST zipper!!! I know as a 40 year old guy I shouldn't be that excited about sewing in a zipper, but with a project like a skirt (that I'd never done before), to complete a zipper AND it came out looking so nice my fiancé thought I bought the skirt...well for me that is something to be proud of (p.s. her initials I stamped into the skirt with a heart and then my initials showed her I did it all on my own). anyways sorry for rambling, but having just seen her try it on, and see it with a good fit and a proper length worthy of a wearing at school...I wanted to say thank you.

ps. I sewed it all by hand with no machine.... put some good callouses on the ol fingers, but was totally worth it.

This is a very difficult job, and if you were able to do it perfectly, I congratulate you.

THANK YOU!!!! I had a cheap plastic zipper break in a pair of faux leather pants that I love. After watching this, i’m confident I can replace it myself

thank you for this tutorial, im working with faux leather and didn't know where to start since you can't pin anything down. i ended up using an all purpose glue to keep everything in place because i don't have a suitable dubbel sided tape but it worked out great
@sewway3 жыл бұрын
All done correctly, you can use the glue or double sided tape. But it is more difficult to glue artificial leather than natural.

What does the water & dish soap do to the leather? How does it help?

It's a slip agent for sewing if you don't have or want to use teflon foot,some leathers get stuck to the foot either way.
