I think the basting stitch is a waist of time

Its up to you. The basting is for easy to iron and open the pleats. Make the pleats crease and sharp. Eventho its a waste of time but it makes the stitch look more neat.

Must admit, was a little disgruntled at not seeing a finished skirt at the end, or at least how the pleats looked. How do we know we want to sew something without seeing a garment? Also the first part made me feel quite sick - you moved the camera a little too quickly.
