Actually feathers are quite resilient. If they are twisted or bent you csn use a hot flat iron to straighten them out

Great tutorial! I was wondering; when you showed how to layer the feather trim, how do you hide your last layer's ribbon? You were seeing on the "right" side correct? Thanks!
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
+Katharine Tool if you don't want to see the decorative ribbon you could always sew on another trim over it or hand sew on some feathers to cover it.

I am wanting to make a cloak. I dont want the backing showing. I want to line the cloak. I am going to attach a 2inch braid at the top. Would you suggest a normal seam sewing over the feathers when attaching the lining? Thelma

When sewing over the clear tape, how did your needle not get gummed up?
@sislertx9 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure but I have seen a low tack sewing tape a good sewing stores...maybe she used that? amazon probably or maybe Hancock's online.
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
+stvnixrcks yes, you can use as @sislertx suggested and use a sewing tape. I used a clear tape that wasn't very sticky at all. Also, dab a little bit of sewer's aid on the needle and this will help too. :)

How would I go about making a fringe trim if I had a lot of loose strands of fringing handy?
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
+LarnieRadek I would do this same process although fringe individually is really thin so I would imagine it would be a little trickier.

Can I use hairspray to my feathers? :'D
@shantzcollymore91109 жыл бұрын
Awesome tutorial... 2 quick questions 1) How many feathers on average should I use to make a trim that's about 12 inches in length? 2) do you have any links for wholesale feather purchases?
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
+Shantz Collymore it really depends on how big your feathers are and how thick you want it. For 12" you'll probably use at least 30 but you can buy always buy a bag of cheap feathers at the local craft store just to experiment with. I haven't purchased feathers wholesale so sorry I don't have a recommendation on this.

I want to add feathers to a silk romper I'm making for a fashion show. Would I sew them directly to the garment or on a separate piece of fabric and then sew that onto the garment?
@ProfessorPincushion7 жыл бұрын
I would sew the feathers on a separate fabric like a ribbon and then sew them on to the garment but you can really do it either way.

I had a question to ask you I can use fabric glue instead of the tape to glue the feathers
@ProfessorPincushion8 жыл бұрын
maybe it test it on a sample and see if it works. I've had pretty good luck with beacon fabric glue so I'm thinking it'll be fine, it might just be a little more messy than tape. :)

Thread breaking, I forgot to add that my feathers have been glued and sewn onto trim and have just started using fingernail polish remover on the needle every time I have to re thread.Is this okay?
@ProfessorPincushion5 жыл бұрын
Hmm....as long as you let the needle dry completely before sewing, I think it should be ok. You also might want to adjust your thread tension.
