Cutting the fabric in two halves instead of on the fold AND using a sharp rotary cutter were key to getting decent pattern pieces - THANK YOU!!

Really useful, thank you. I've bought a huge stretch velvet dress from a charity store and need to take it in. Have never sewn with stretch fabrics so your helpful tips are fantastic, especially the tissue paper tip (as I fear there will be slipping)

You didn’t talk about how to keep the edges from constantly rolling up.

Get a higher quality stretch velvet. I've worked with two different kinds from JoAnn's, one constantly rolled and still leaves little fluff balls all over the house when wearing, the other is a bit difficult because it's slippery, but is much higher quality, gorgeous sheen, and most importantly no rolling edges!

Do you recommend lining for stretch velvet? If so, what sort of fabric do you recommend??

Can I make a blazer jacket with stretch fabric? And what if I cut away from the stretch would it give it stiffness?

Watched the video once. Since I don't take shorthand, moved onto a 24 minute video by a British woman. Though your tips were just fine and what I needed as review, having not sewn with the fabric for eons, I just don't have time to watch and re-watch someone reading off of a prepared speech sheet. This from me, an educator: it would be extremely helpful to slow down and have you active with each example.

im someone with learning disabilities and although I am in the same boat as you by needing slower and more thorough instructions, I want to defend the video creator as a short 'tips' video is still valuable to have and can be the perfect thing that many need to get what they are looking for (as opposed to sifting through a 25 minute video). It might not be what we need but thats okay, not all videos need to be super thorough demonstration lessons! Besides, not all of these tips are relevant to all patterns, its more just stuff to keep in mind while working with the material. Also, instead of re watching, you can go into the settings and find the transcript of the video to quickly find what you need

I have been having difficulty with my stretch velvet being extremely fluffy. Even after 2 washes, after I wore my dress out, my tights were covered in fluff. Any advice to stop this please?
@ProfessorPincushion4 жыл бұрын
oh no! sorry, I don't know how to fix this unless it's possibly coming from the selvages. You might need to finish them more so the fuzz isn't coming off the edges.
