Yoga pants aren't just for ladies. I wear 'em under my jeans to keep my legs warm while riding my motorcycle. nothing girlie about it. They are also comfortable to wear around the house on a winter day. I stole 'em from my girlfriend, but now i think i'll make my own. I might make my girlfriend a pair since hers are stretched out. They look better on me then on her.

Yep, you do not need a serger to make pants like this. You can kind of overlock with a regular sewing machine. Just do a wide zig-zag stitch over the edge of your raw seams (so the left stitch is on the fabric, and the right stitch is off the fabric). Hope that makes sense!

Oh, just don't backstitch (if you must, backstitch with a straight stitch, and then switch back to Zig-Zag). First, I want to say, I love your channel Tock! Now to my question, I noticed in this video you sewed the yoga pants with the pins in place. Is that because of the type of material (stretch), or have you started sewing your seams with the pins in place on all seams? I am a newer sewer, and was just curious as to the change in technique. Thanks
@avibonn57242 жыл бұрын
Hello new sewer. I can answer this for you. It is not a good idea to sew over pins for many reasons. Pins should be removed just before going under the needle. If you place your pins with the head facing the cut edge, it will be easy to remove them with your right hand. Sewing over pins can dull and damage the needle, which could then damage the bobbin case. It is a good habit to remove the pins while sewing. Happy sewing!
@swag_4_1if32 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. I would be afraid to sew while the pins in place for fear that you could damage the machine or worse, have a needle break and perhaps have flying metal shoot out.

@BVK62314 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason why the step of sewing seams with a sewing machine could not be eliminated, and the seams be sewn with only a serger?
@BVK62314 жыл бұрын
I got so wrapped up in typing my question that I forgot my comments. The yoga pants are super cute! And I agree, Tock's voice is perfect for those of us who are listening. I like your voice so much that I would listen even if I wasn't interested in the topic. 🤣 But I especially appreciate how clearly you explain everything, and show video of each step.
@TockCustom4 жыл бұрын
Sewing with a sewing machine first is extremely helpful to make sure you're getting the proper seam allowance throughout the project so it fits correctly at the end. It's also a much stronger stitch than a serged seam. If you trust that you can produce an accurate seam allowance with a serger, and increase the tension throughout it, you could potentially eliminate the need for a sewing machine on this project. But with knit fabrics you'd be able to see the stitching on all the seams (on the outside) which doesn't look very good. In contrast - industrial/machine made clothing both sew, overlock, and trim all at the same time - so we made these the way store bought clothing is created, it just takes an extra step. Hope this helps! Great question :)

WITH POCKETS. This is crucial. It's criminal how many women's garments just don't have functioning pockets.
@TockCustom4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree! Bring back the pockets!!

This comment needs more likes. Having colors I like and pockets on everything, are huge incentives for me to sew my own clothing instead of buying. Then I will purge my closet of all the ugly stuff by cutting them up and using the fabric for other stuff.

After finishing that pair of pants, you're ready to move on to "Barbie" fashions. Gonna be hard to come up with a new design though..... You know the Babs has everything already!

There are lots of people doing female clothes. Men's clothes really shouldn't be *niche* damn it. What I *really* want is men's clothes that aren't *boring*. Feel free to throw some cosplay in there. Or historical. By including it you'll cover a range of techniques you might not otherwise see.
