This was so helpful! I am currently an assistant at a salon and starting cosmo school in August. I'm still working on shampoos, especially with rinsing out color and really making sure to get it off the neck without completely drenching the clients back! Love these tips and definitely will be implementing them:) Would love more basic videos like this for us beginners and maybe even a video about your experience in beauty school! :)

I love that! I’m so glad these were helpful, thank you for the suggestions 💗 one thing I will say about beauty school is that it is challenging and takes a lot of patience, but stick with it and you will grow so much once you start working on clients!

your shampoo lathers so easy! my college has such poor quality, cheap products 😭 i have to put like ten pumps to feel like I'm cleaning the hair properly 😭 starting washing, drying and setting on clients tomorrow so I'm watching loads of videos on them all 😭
@amarispetty5115 Жыл бұрын
Okay I totally get the whole school having the cheapest product (mine did too) but just a little tip that even now being in a high-end salon with amazing product, it doesn’t always lather if their hair is on the dirtier side it won’t foam up that great. Wet the hair completely, get a few pumps of shampoo and lather and massage as much as you can, rinse most of the way not all of it cause you’re gonna do another shampoo and this second one will lather so much more! That first kinda breaks up all the oil and dirt and product and opens up the hair, allowing that second one to really penetrate the hair! I hope this was helpful it was when I was still using the cheapest of the cheap! 😊

As someone who had to leave the industry 2 years ago thank you so much for this! The last salon had the bowls attached against the wall so I'm use to shampooing on the side versus behind and I just needed to refresh on what the hand movements looks from behind. I'm restarting from scratch and was asked to come in to do a shampoo and blow out and although I'm experienced I'm still nervous. Some places have specific shampoo experience but standing behind is throwing me off.

Omgosh thank you so much for pointing out the rinsing part. I always take a bit of extra time to rinse, which is no longer than a minute or or two (especially after dyes). But some people have said something that 'I'm sure it's all out now' or 'you're going to wash all my hair away' was the most recent... and I'm like no I can feel it, I will stop rinsing when I know for sure. Like ugh it's so annoying when clients say stuff like that. Just sit there and shut up and relax.

I feel always nervous to shampoo because some clients just don’t lean back. The bowls we use are adjustable so sometimes the client isn’t far back enough even if I ask and I notice I’m getting water in their ears ugh
@WholyHair4 жыл бұрын
Abigail Greffe I totally get that, it’s hard because everyone is different. Maybe put two towels around their neck instead of one so you don’t soak their back, and don’t worry so much about water in their ears, most people don’t care if a little gets in there!😊
@BigBri76474 жыл бұрын
I'm very tall and a bigger person, so often the bowl is too low for me to fit in comfortably. I haven't yet found a hairdresser that has made any effort to accommodate me, and I am often very uncomfortable at the back wash station because I have to slide down so far in the chair I actually CAN'T lean back into the sink!

Your video gives an idea of a comfortable beginning of a hairdresser appointment. Do you lather your client's hair only once usually? I do like if hairdresser administers a second shampoo after the haircut. This treatment will help to remove hair snips that are still on scalp and among the hair.

At a salon I went to, I was constantly leaving with a wet back and shoulders. One day, I was soaked down to my butt, through my clothes. It was obvious to everyone in the salon that I was drenched. I had to leave without getting my hair cut or blown dry. Interestingly, nobody from the salon ever reached out to me with an apology. I never went back.

@WholyHair4 жыл бұрын
Danielle another method I use is I have the client turn their head to either side and carefully rinse the back one side at a time. I think the key it to use your hand to scoop the water down toward the sink as you rinse, it definitely takes practice! Also, make sure the client is situated correctly in the bowl. Hope this helps!

@@WholyHair I was used to shampoo daily with Wella SP Balance Scalp for several years. I thought I will not be easily convinced to change the shampoo. But another video on youtube aroused my curiosity. I have no regrets about the OLAPLEX shampoo that does already cause a most special feeling when it is rubbed in one's soapy palms. I have a real good feeling about this shampoo that does not contain a lot of less recommendable ingredients as most shampoos do. Great especially because I have to shampoo daily.

Sweetie, this is good advice and loved watching this video of you giving shampoos.. would love for you to run your fingers through my hair and massage my scalp; my question is? What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use? for some reason, every barber shop I go to, the shampoo and conditioner tends to dry my scalp and give me dandruff. In my house, I use selsun blue and tea tree conditioner for my hair. When I have another party shampoo my hair at the house; I like to get down on my knees and then the other person scrubs and scratches the top of my head and massages and then afterwards; I then sit down in the chair and let them rinse my hair like you were doing to this lady in the video. I think the key for the best shampoo is scrubbing with your nails and fingertips and seems like most barbers or people don't want to do that these days!
