Your "knife sharpening angle guide" is the angle built into the sharpener. You did it backward. You hold the knife blade at a level angle and move the blade UP the ramp, not down. That gives you the proper angle.

Please ... do your self a favor and DO NOT sharpen your knife like this guy! Watch the video below. I also have the ultimate survival knife and the video below is how I sharpen my knife. I would suggest getting the unbranded one(Gerber Gear Ultimate Knife) on amazon for 45.70! It's much more durable as it is full Tang and looks less cheesy!
