Thanks man glad to be of some help..! Main thing is keeping the file at a constant angle and to create a nice sharp edge(burr) one of my knives it takes almost no pressure to get a good spark lol I got lucky...!

Can I use sandpaper or a sharpening stone to sharpen the spine?
@houseoffire726 жыл бұрын
WintaFresh 2nd Channel Yep. Wrap the sand paper around a hard wood block or maybe a chunk of steel or aluminum bar if you have some just to keep it nice and flat. Stones work to do the same but it may put a groove in your stone but you could always wrap the sandpaper around that to

Not sure if this was asked yet but what kind of files did you use? Were they single cut?
@houseoffire729 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Langston Nope not asked yet... Im unsure of the exact name of the file but the one I use most for this is a very fine single cut type of file... The larger one is a little more aggressive...

I just bought the Mora Companion Heavy Duty Knife with Sandvik Carbon Steel Blade, And want to sharpen the spine for obvious reasons... Is is safe to assume about 3/4 of a Millimetre will do?? And could you use a grinder?? If a file is better nd if so could you suggest what to use.. Thanks in advance
@houseoffire728 жыл бұрын
You could use a grinder if your REALLY carefull but I would not... Any type of metal file will work as long as its not to course - I use a fine one it seems to create a nice sharp edge...

Thanks for the responce

How fine would you suggest??? Is there a # on the file I should be looking for?? www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/nicholson-mill-bastard-file-0582862p.html#srp Would one of these work

ashish prasad Awesome you will be glad you did. Some moras need a little work from factory. My first couple needed edge work. I have a couple mora hd that I really enjoy. Checked out my Mora vids you can see how I pimped mine out with ferro rod, fatwood etc.

You need carbon steel to strike sparks off of a flint, not for a ferro rod.
@houseoffire724 жыл бұрын
Ive done it with HC stainless.
@carllove37054 жыл бұрын
@@houseoffire72 The key there is "HC". High Carbon. Carbon makes the flint spark.

Nobody said stainless can't throw sparks. People carry carbon steel knives incase they need to strike a piece of quartz or flint off of their knife.
@houseoffire729 жыл бұрын
Ive heard many people say stainless wont work for ferro rods when really any sharp edge works fine for it...
@jessejames8379 жыл бұрын
Never heard that before. Whoever said that clearly doesnt know what they are talking about. People carry carbon steel knives so they can strike FLINT or quartz if needed, not ferrocerium. Ferrocerium will work on stainless or carbon steel whereas flint will only work on carbon steel
@houseoffire729 жыл бұрын
+Jesse James Exactly:)
@applenaut8 жыл бұрын
As long as the stone is harder than the steel, you can cast sparks from any steel. Albeit some steels cast more and hotter sparks than others. That being said, you can pound hard rocks together and make sparks too.
@keithallison.223 жыл бұрын
Wow! You've ruined Mora than your share of good knives! Anyone that knows anything about knives knows you should leave at least 1" of smooth, safe, comfortable spine (at the handle), before any mods. You're welcome.
@houseoffire723 жыл бұрын
🤣🤣🤣 Each to their own..! Everyone has an opinion and to be honest I don't really care at all... Whatever mods I've have done or will do work for my needs...
