A smooth, conversational and easy to follow tutorial! This was great! Although I’ve never shielded my own guitar, I’ve certainly been curious about the process. This guitar is going to be a BEAST by the time you’re totally finished tweaking it! I can’t wait to see the end result! Great as always, Eric! The Bay State thanks you! 🤘🤘🤘💪💪💪

Zach, thanks so much for watching! Shielding is something that definitely isn't necessary or anything to get hung up about when evaluating an instrument. But in specific situations it can definitely help! For instance, my parts JM - shielding helped it a lot! Whereas with my SG, shielding the guitar made almost no difference. But like I said in the video, it's kind of fun for me now. Just gives me a chance to mellow out really haha. This classic vibe is a really great guitar! I put 12's on it and i've got it tuned to c# std. I think I'm gonna get some 11-50-somethings soon to give that a shot.

This video was very helpful towards my first guitar build. I did conductive shielding paint, but wanted to do copper shielding for the pickguard I'm going to order. This really made it simple, thanks man!

Taking my new squire lefty jazzmaster out for first gig tomorrow night after initial set in Courtney’s bar Killarney Ireland I’ll try and get a video and post it. I have a blue tooth wireless at the moment so no noise issue but will be doin* full shielding soon thanks for videos 😀

Getting from Detroit Eric. I'm a new subscriber (only about 6 months) and glad I did. I'm an offset lover too and know about Mike Adams on KZbin also. He's awesome. As you know, there's a ton of shielding tutorials out there but yours is great. I haven't shielded my Squier CV Jag or JM yet. You're inspiring me to do it now. Your biggest tip was using a cloth to smooth the tape out. Thanks for that! I would've cut my fingers all up. Hahahaa. Have a nice day man.

You did have continuity, but it looked like it was in the meg-ohms range. I can't imagine that would be as good as zero resistance. That might make for an interesting video the different resistance of various types of shielding paints. Anyway, great video.

09:17 oooh i wanted to know how to apply shielding to the body and thats conductive paint... 11:18 ok then Awesome video as usual... I ordered a pickguard to change configuration on my oooold guitar so I think is the best time to try that shield thing.

I know this is an old comment but I am really curious to know why you would choose to do this to a pedal. If the pedal enclosure is made of metal and is grounded from the pots and jacks then isn't the enclosure acting in the same capacity as the copper tape does on a guitar? I'm guessing the pedal enclosure you're doing this to is plastic? How did it turn out?

@@cameronfarrell9076 hey! I actually make all my pedals out of old skateboards, so they have to be shielded! They work great and the tape is so much nicer to use rather than paint!

Have you ever tried implanting an amplifier and speaker in a guitar? I came across this post looking for some ideas. I have a little First Act electric guitar with a speaker in it. I replaced the amplifier with two small amps internally when to overdrive the other one however the second amp I can't turn up very much without getting a massive squealing coming from the internal wiring being too close do the board and feeding back into the second amp magnetically. The same Electronics worked fine with both amps turned up to Max before I implanted them into the guitar.

When you first mentioned this video during the pickup upgrade video, I was looking forward to it a great deal. I was not disappointed. One question though, wouldn’t it have been less time consuming to use the shielding paint in the cavity? Also, how readily available is the shielding paint? One of my guitars uses it and it’s a little flaky in some spots. Anyway, great video Eric!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Great question, Chris! I haven’t used shielding paint but I think if you applied it correctly it would probably be quicker to actually apply. But then I’d imagine you’d want to let it dry? Not sure how long that takes. But after it’s dry, it would work the same as the tape for sure.

Sorry I'm late but wouldn't you have to ground your shield?
@EricMerrow
@EricMerrow Жыл бұрын
You are correct, you’ll want to make a connection from the electronic ground to the shield. With the Jazzmaster it’s pretty nice and easy because the bracket on the rhythm circuit is typically grounded and it’s easy to make connection with the shielding
