Rev matching is also essential to get your head around with shifting. Some people get stressed then start rushing the shift which grinds/crunches, then makes them stress more and start forcing gears in trashing the selectors and stretching the linkages 😂

First: forget about the '18'ish number It's really easy, you don't need to use every gear. You can drive it like a 10 speed without split the gears, give it good revs. I'm learning too at first i got scared by the 18 number but it's really easy and fun to drive it when you get the trick

​@isiahgatson7409 word of mouth claims without any proof, evidence, or an explination why tend to be incredibly wrong from my experience. In reality, an 18 speed is a 9 speed that has an auxiliary transmission to split the difference betweens gears in half. As such, you should shift 1-9 without splitting when accelerating under most conditions and then use the splitter to tune your rpm to meet your desired power/efficiency balance. If you are extremely heavy or are accelerating up an incline, then you would use the splitter when accelerating. If you compare gear ratios between 10 speeds and 18 speeds, the difference between gears in the speeds is roughly the same as on an 18 speed if you dont split gears.

Just think of it as a normal 5 speed, but you split each gear, and do it twice lol i love 18 speeds. You just flip that thumb switch up, let off the throttle and back on the throttle when it switches gears. Its super simple when you dont over think it lol, itll just click one day and youll look back like “wtf was i thinking??” 😂

It’s not. It depends if you’re a nurse in a small clinic or a NICU, ICU, ER, OR, Oncology, Nurse Anesthetist, Charge Nurse. You learn your zone, and go. Trucking suck because of the 70 work week, 28 days over the road and 4 days home with family. Driving with the public that doesn’t care about you or the things you’re hauling that make their existence possible. Being penalized for being late, but being told it’s just the way things go if you’re waiting at a receiver to be unloaded. I’ve waited 12 hours to be unloaded by a receiver but if I was late they would have complained.

Thats a misconception. Its situationally dependent. If you are extremely heavy or accelerating up hill, then yes, you'll want to split every gear. But youre light and on flat ground, you can forego splitting each gear

@vroor32 for clutch longevity you should start in first gear loaded. But it's completely possible to start in a higher gear. You could also skip splitting but it's going to be harder to match transmission speed to road speed doing so. As well as your going to lug your lot truck a lot harder burning more fuel and possibly overheating the engine if you lug really hard. So unless your extremely convertible with the truck your driving the best option is to start in first and split every gear it's not like it's a 15 speed which has a field range essentially.

Tranny is now shot and clutch is kaput ...I'm throwing in an 18spd and want to make sure I'm not going to fuck it up ... Your advice is highly appreciated 👍🏿

Depends on the truck man all depends what she's got in her and what she likes. Some trucks split on high side. Some split every shift.

@@thegoat5587 technically the 2 low gears on the bottom left corner is your first and second gear but as far as I know those two gears are only used when you're crawling around the yard/parking lot or pulling REALLY heavy and sometimes hill assist. On the average day to day use those two gears are usually skipped and it's ran like in the video.

Its not about the amount of gears in the tranny that determine how fast you go. Where the governor is set determines how fast you can go before it goes no faster, as well as how much horsepower it has, and the ratio of rear ends you have. The speedometer doesnt even determine how fast, bcuz ive been in trucks that said 80 on the speedometer, but the truck would run 100mph, whoch means you would have to use an external source to see your speed, like a gps or something!
