Thanks. I'm just starting out and I was pulling the throttle back too early, before letting the clutch out enough and was revving especially from 1st to 2nd gear. This was very helpful. thank you.

I just got my license about 2 weeks ago and wasn’t comfortable shifting gears. I’ve never drove a manual car either so I didn’t understand the concept. I watched your video twice and went out there and practiced! Took what I’ve learned and got it right on the first try! I even went on my neighborhood road and shifted up to the 3rd gear! I was able to feel and hear when I shifted smoothe. I feel so much more comfortable and confident. Thank you so much for the video. I already subscribed and cannot wait to watch more and learn!

@ProkG 15 he said he wasn’t comfortable, not that he didn’t know how to do it. We mostly drive automatic here so it’s not necessary for most. I hadn’t driven manual for 20 years til I got on a. Bike and had to relearn.

@@egyjuice Im 44 and am just starting to learn to ride... , Ive ridden quite a few 'twist and go' scooters on some pretty crazy roads in Thailand and loved it but Ive never learned to ride a real motorcycle, nothing with a clutch and gears that required any real skills... So now Ive just bought all my safety gear and I have my first lesson in a couple of weeks.... Everyday at the moment I go from super excitement- 'finally Im actually gonna do this' ' cant wait to pass my test and start practicing' to shitting my pants- 'oh my god, can I really do this...! Can I learn all this stuff? , do I have the coordination?, the reactions, the concentration, the ability to always have slow hands even in an emergency.... everything its gonna take to be a good rider' Thank god for fast Eddie's awesome teaching style and zen-like approach everytime I have a little bit of doubt I watch another bunch of his videos, this one and the braking ones especially Ive watched heaps of times over... Im a firm believer that its never too late to learn anything and I can't wait, it something Ive always wanted to do but Im not afraid to admit I am also a little scared... I think moreso than I wouldve been in my 20s but maybe thats a good thing...

@@egyjuice Hi Yasser, I'm 62 and just started riding. Previous experience was only a small trail bike when I was a teenager for one or two seasons and the MSF course. Take the MSF course and that may give you some idea if you want to pursue riding further. Some states issue your motorcycle endorsement at the end of the class if you pass the written and riding tests. Then your first bike should be small, light and easy to handle to make learning and beginning to ride easier and less intimidating. Also get and wear gear.

I'm 55 and just started learning to ride a motorcycle. These videos combined with my physical practices make it so much easier for me to understand what and why I am learning what I am learning. Big part of the student's success certainly lies in the way the master explains. The small steps, the repetition, taking the time and explaining why, really does the trick. I can't thank you enough.

Adjusting the clutch lever makes a HUGE difference. My hands are smaller and my bike came with a friction zone that was wayyyy out. I dealt with it for a while, but then changed it and it makes all the difference. It took not that long to get used to and helped with clutch control, starting from a stop, basically everything

You should be teaching at bike courses Eddie, from beginners to advanced. Brilliant how chilled and nice you make it seem. Can you do a video about tips to change gear quickly and smoothly for intermediate or advanced riders please. I think the advanced riders call it pre loading the gear lever when you sort of press the lever a little bit just before you come off the throttle and then pull in the clutch lever and then click it into gear but I'm having trouble getting used to it because I often over think it. Maybe it's just like that spot on theory you have about the Breathing, Walking and Riding, it'll just come in time when it's ingrained as muscle memory.

Thank you this was super helpful! I forgot all about the friction zone, I remember hearing about it but completely forgot what it was this just explained it perfectly thank you so much this is what I've been lacking in my practice. Finding that zone and taking it SLOW thanks again! One thing I need help with is figuring out when its time to switch up and down gears is there a certain mile, rpm to base it on? This seem to be conflicted in this area.

You're welcome. When your speed is high enough for the next gear, shift. Go ride, you'll figure it out with more miles. FYI: Do you know about my other KZbin channel? I’ve watched hundreds of videos and attended the MSF equivalent in my country… this is the first that has explained the throttle/clutch movements as seperate rather initially than saying “it’s one fluid movement”… I know that it should end up one fluid movement as you become experienced with the movement, but it made it so hard to figure out how to get my muscles to do it. I’d do often not roll off the throttle and have such a jolting ride. Also was never told you can keep changing gears without letting out the clutch between each downshift. Thank you!!

Another great dose of wisdom thanks to ur teachings I am know able to go to the front of the line and take of first at a red light knowing I won’t stall. I just keep cool and focus on playing the piano. It has taken a lot of practice and applying what u show us. What would u recommend in the case of approaching intersection where the light has been green for awhile I get a lil anxious 😦 . What I do is prepare for the intersection by slowing enough not to get hit from the back but ready enough to stop if i get yellow where it is to risky to gun it ( that is my mental process right now which causes me tighten up a bit any feedback would be appreciated) I been practicing right turns from a stop and I’m getting better with keeping it tight vs taking up two lanes just to turn right like a semi 🚚 lol
@MotoJitsu
@MotoJitsu 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For an intersection, I slow down and look both ways for stupid to blow through it...if it's been green a while, I get ready to stop or go a bit faster, it all depends on if there's someone close behind me. If there is, I won't stop fast because they'll probably come close to or actually hit me...I may speed up if someone isn't going to try and turn either...all depends.

K yes that makes sense to many variables I will be aware of all those scenarios and keep practicing until I can process everything faster and not really have to think about it just react. Hey Fast Eddie, i actually wanted to ask you something in relation to this. What you mentioned is actually what i’ve been doing ever since i got my endorsement...Lets say i’m in fifth gear and i want to drop down into second before approaching a tight turn. Most times when i drop down multiple gears it is completely smooth but i’ve had few occasions where i’ve locked up the rear. Does this just mean that i had let go of the clutch too soon for the speed i was going for that lower gear? And i should have slowed down much further before letting the clutch out? Also do you have any advice for bikes which experience a lot of engine breaking
@MotoJitsu
@MotoJitsu 5 жыл бұрын
@@IM-nt6ql yes...you either released too fast or too soon...you can just use the brakes and slow a bit more before pulling in the clutch and downshifting :)

just clicked on this to watch and understand bc i'm thinking about getting a bike and license etc. never knew if it was like some sequential gearboxes where you only need the clutch when stopping or going, or if it was like a stick shift car. glad to know it's like a stick shift car where you need the clutch through the gears and need to remove the throttle when going up a gear

What I did gain is simple but helpful. Roll the throttle forward to cut it completely. At times I’ll mistakenly add throttle because my hand is on the throttle. But doing simply rolling forward completely assured cutting it off. Great videos. Just randomly found your channel.
