I’m so thankful for stumbling upon your channel! I’ve been wanting to add some shirring to a couple of dresses I’m making. However, I’ve been being stumped on how to achieve the exact look I’m wanting. Thanks to you, your videos have been extremely helpful & inspiring. Before my mom passed away, she gave me her Singer sewing machine, model 6235, that she purchased in 1988. I have 2 other machines that are much newer but I always gravitate towards hers. My mom was a seamstress for over 40 years & she was always trying new techniques. Every time I use your tip on gathering fabric by using the zigzag stitch I smile & know that my mom would have flipped over that one! Keeping up the tradition of taking my machines in for a yearly cleaning / oiling, as she recommended, they still sew like a dream. Your channel has been my go to for tips & overall problem solving. I think about my mom a lot while watching your videos & she would have LOVED them as much as I do. Thank you again. :)

Awwwwww I love reading this. I’m so happy you find my videos helpful & that you think of your mom when you sew & watch the videos. That’s awesome you have her machine too!!! I love that you are carrying her spirit of sewing 🧵 💕 Have a great day. 🎀 oh & good luck on your dresses. Also this technique works great but it really depends on the quality of elastic! Amazon sells a big roll of it that works awesome!

Great tutorial! I love how you explain WHY to do something a certain way, like why tension matters and hand rolling the bobbin is better.

Thank you for this helpful tutorial! Would you mind providing a link to the clear craft elastic that you use? It turns out there are different thicknesses and I had no idea which one to order that would work best. On my sewing elastic (Singer) it doesn't actually provide a a thickness, just yardage. Thanks for your help!

I bought that such a long time ago 🤷🏻‍♀️ I tried finding it online & I didn’t see it. I know I got it at Joann’s. I would try some different clear elastics with your machine to see what works best. Let me know which one ends up working best.

Do you think the sharing effect could be used in millinery?

Do you have to wind the bobbin by hand?
@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia 3 жыл бұрын
Yes unless you can do it on your machine without making it too tight. Maybe try both ways to see what works best for you.

I’ve been really curious about undoing shirring and putting the same fabric back into place to just be a flat panel. (Almost every plus size dress has a shirred back and I’m tired of it haha.) I’m assuming I’d need to steam or iron out the creases from the gathering, etc but wasn’t sure how much shirring permanently changes/damages the fabric. What do you think?

Ooo that’s a good question. It probably depends how worn the garment is. Hypothetically it should be fine & if you wash it the needle holes should close up. Try it & let me know how it goes.

Make sure your elastic bobbin is in the tension disc for your bobbin thread. Sometimes it will just sit on top cause the elastic is thick. Also I have found that not all elastic works. Sone of it is just bad.

Wonderful tutorial, very well explained. A word of advice, your lighting is much too bright. It washes out your subjects and the glare on your glasses is very distracting. Try using bright indirect lighting, pointing the lights away from you behind the camera and reflected off of something pale, like photographers do with those big umbrellas. Much easier to see. Also, the aesthetic of the whole video feels like it's directed at a really little girl, from the bubblegum pink background to your tone of voice, while the subject is a bit more in the middle school to adult kind of demographic for audience. You'll get more views if you fix your lighting and adjust to your audience better. :)
