@@MissAsherPH I use a Singer stylist, the model is like a 74258 or something 😅 I know it has those numbers somewhere in it lol. it has a teal side panel. It worked for me, but I had to put the thread tension lower instead of higher!👍👍

My two absolute favourites! They both are at different skill levels but I love both sides of each of them. The best thing (especially Annika) is absolutely not afriad to admit when she messes up, how to fix it, AND how to avoid many problems altogether. Such great, positive, and entertaining channels!

I've always wondered how this was done. I never knew that it was so easy a method of sewing. I love the shirred look on some things like blouses. TYSM for sharing this video.

A tip for shirring right up to the edge: If the panel has a straight edge, I like to fold the top over to make a casing and insert a piece of elastic there, it gives a really clean finish!
@melindaroos9685 жыл бұрын
When I had no idea how to do shirring properly, I just stretched an elastic band and sewed it onto my fabric. It pulled together rather nicely, but I'll try your method next time
@AlextheENTP4 жыл бұрын
That's what I used to think shirring was too! I'd examine the fabric closely, and it really looked like they had literally stitched this ridiculously thin elastic onto the wrong side of the fabric. I was so baffled as to how they got the machine to do that. Lol, now this tutorial has made me an expert compared to how far off I was then!
@MihcaelaAnderson-v9g10 күн бұрын

I had said I was going to try some shirring and I did! It was fun but at the beginning was a bit like learning to use a sewing machine all over again. My main problem now is getting my tension back where it should be. I had to turn my top tension all the way to 9! (I have a Brother PC-210 PRW if anyone’s interested in knowing the model.) And now I can’t seem to get the tension right again. A fried who was a former professional costumer said that what I should do is turn all the tensions back to zero and then adjust up until I find the sweet spot. Also, I found I had to stretch my elastic thread a bit while winding. And my machine top loads bobbins and it really really didn’t like the first few stitches sewn with that elastic thread. I think it has to do with how the bobbin thread threads up through the machine.
@notoriousqueenpigeon3 жыл бұрын
wow. I was holding the skinny elastic and zig zagging over it, which looks cool if yer top stiching a different color on the fabric, but HOLY CROW!!!! this is SOOOOO much more logical. Thank You!

Thank you☺️. I just used your video to show my father method of shirring using elastic thread, instead of using thick elastic bands and stretching of cloth to create the elastic effect.

Very interesting! Never realised that the elastic thread might be able to backstitch... I tediously tied off each of the rows the one time I attempted this... Also +1 that you don't need a fancy machine to shir well -- had a bunch of luck doing this as a beginner on a basic mechanical machine and never realised that there was so much to learn on this technique!

I have a sewing machine I've never used for a year now, and I missed out on a sale of a dress I was madly in love with it was hot pink %100, the typical type dress with the shirring, I can hand sew but haven't done a pattern for many years, but you've inspired me to get that dress lol I cant believe how easy it's done on the machine!
@elliedoll86055 жыл бұрын
Where was this tutorial when i was learning to shirr oh lord. If it helps anyone else, the problem i had was that the elastic was too thick (hemline 0.75mm) so it kept popping out of the groove that gave it tension
@JoHazelleTadlas184 жыл бұрын
does 0.5mm elastic work best? I have 1mm so I guess this is why it doesn't work for me as well..
@princesa3114 жыл бұрын
With my sewing machine I have to slightly stretch the elastic thread, it's the Brother BM3850, just for the ones that have a machine like mine or similar don't trouble yourself with that 😊

Perhaps that's why my fabric doesn't gather at all no matter how I change the tension settings!!

This is so, SO helpful!! I have an old sleeveless sundress that I’ve had since I was a kid and I’m trying to rework. The main bodice is shirred, and the skirt is wide and flowy. Under the skirt is a second layer, same material as the rest, but now that I own a pair of cotton bloomers I can wear underneath, I’d like to remove the underlayer and make sleeves from the fabric. I want them to be poofy, but in fitting them down to the arm, I hadn’t even considered shirring the band! Oh, I’m so excited!

I literally watched this once and it worked like a charm! One downside is that my planned waistband came out about 25% too small to reinsert into the dress so I will cut the ring in half and use it as sleeve cuffs. Still, I think I need to watch again to see if you covered the ratio of raw fabric to final product. Thank you!
