I bring a 3D target out with a buddy and we take turns shooting out of the stand all summer. One guys retrieves arrows and moved the target, and then switch. Does way more for me and my confidence than shooting at the range at a hanging bag target.

That’s the best and easiest way to explain arrow drop from heights. Seeing is believing! Shortens the learning curve and good fun at the same time.

When I first started Messing around with a bow at 12 my dad always said aim for the feet to get the meat. He would aim at the bottom of the deer to hit vitals out of a tree stand. Then I started reading on it and articles said bend at the waist. I always felt like I was going to fall out of the tree. I haven’t shot a bow for 25 years until this year. I bought a new bow to get back into the sport. Thanks for the tip about just having to keep shoulders aligned. Going to give it a try later. Enjoy all your videos.

Man practice how you play is so key. I found this out the hard way years back. I thought I would be slick and order some ASAT leafy gear for warm weather hog hunting in Georgia. Well, first opportunity I drew back from a seated position on a hog about 15 yards from me, so it was a steeper angle, and the leafy gear actually got in between the cam and the string. Got a little messy. After this I set up a permanent hang-on at my backyard range and I make a point to practice from it. Really cool you did a video on this, it is stuff nobody teaches the beginner.

Good point about having the release ready. I blew a chance at a big buck because I had my wrist strap release folded back in my sleeve because of trying to keep noise down while I was ranging shooting lanes and didn’t want my release hitting the body of the rangefinder. By the time I got my release out and hooked, the deer was walking straight towards my tree, walked underneath me, walked straight away from me, then got my wind and booked it. I could have had a 17 yard shot perfectly broadside while he stopped to scratch his neck with his foot if I had been prepared.

Good video Chris and company. I’m a fan of all your stuff, whether instructional or fun stuff. I know there are limits on length of videos, so the quick hits are good info. I like the halfway up the tree comment about “proper footwear”. And the comments about “all about bow, bow, bow” once in the stand. Bow placement is a good info, but I think you missed one issue. That is, placement of the safety strap. BTW….did you have it on? I didn’t see it tied off to the tree above your head. Always SAFETY FIRST whenever practicing or the real thing. Don’t want to see anything happen to you or the crew.

Um...err...Chris...Um,...... You're still bending at the waist. Just laterally.....Never the less,...Notice, when you demonstrated standing straight up, your release was around the corner of your mouth (AKA: Your anchor moved). That is why so many people shoot high from the treestand. GREAT ADVICE for new & old bowhunters!!!👍

How are you not bending at the waist, when you are actually still bending a bit at the waist (*_*) Yes, obviously with the shoulders but you still should bend at least a little. If your standing, not as comfortable obviously, you will have full range of movement in the waist. That being said, shooting sitting down is awesome.
@russelllangworthy88552 жыл бұрын
Not the greatest advice. The reason you want to bend at the waist is because you want to keep your bow parallel with your torso. And being afraid you’re going to fall is just psychological. Do you fall when you’re standing on the ground bending at the waist? Of course not.
