Chris, in my job I am required to qualify with my firearm every quarter of the year. Shooting is one of my struggles of my job. Often time I am required to remediate my qualifications in order to keep my job. After many books and videos, your are the ones that made the difference. Watching your videos has made a good marksmanship with my weapon and I don't worry about losing my job anymore. I can't thank you enough for your training videos they made a big difference in how I now shoot with my weapon. Thank you for your past service to our great country and now to your fellow man. Thank you!!!!!!

Thanks Chris. I recently bought my first gun. the first couple times at the range I wanted to get used to handling recoil and proper grip. The last time I went to the range. I drove home thinking that I have horrible eyes and crappy sights. Watching your video has helped me understand that I now need to practice with my focus. I was telling my wife that all I see is a white line when aiming. Now I need to focus on the front sight and keep my gun pointed at the target. Thanks a bunch!!

It is the most valuable lesson I ever received for three years, I started to shoot. I "saw" the front sight clearly, maybe just a month ago and the results have improved immediately. Now, this video was confirmation of my own experience. It seems no one and did not hide, but so clearly no one ever explained. Thank you very much!

Wonderful video Chris! At the age of 14, I learned the art of focusing from an adult hunter. I had a pellet gun at the time and I couldn't hit squat. The hunter put a small orange mark on the tip of the front sight and I started hitting everything dead center! I am 69 now and have used the same principle on all my guns. I also learned to shoot with both eyes open. I don't hunt anymore but go to the gun range about 3 times a month. Still shooting good.

As a new shooter (did a little shooting as a kid long ago) who has been meditating for over 30 years, I want to say thank you for reminding me that there is always more to learn. Took me a few tries and then "pop" the dots finally disappeared...I'm going to keep practicing before I head back to the range and I really like the idea of bringing this kind of focus and awareness into shooting. Great stuff, I look forward to watching the rest. :)

Glad it popped for you, but don't go back to the range too soon. The place to learn is at home. You don't need to shoot a gun to learn to focus.

I am putting more effort into the dry environment before returning to the range and applying the techniques described here. Psychologically training your mind to do something is one of the most powerful tools in your trunk. I look forward to testing these new ideas.

Crazy that I found this video. I was at the range on Tuesday practicing teqnique and I noticed my groups were far better when I focused on the front sight leaving the target blurry. I remember I read somewhere that you should focus on the front sight but that's all I remembered so I tried "looking at it" and focusing on it. Going to try this again Monday.

Chris, until recently I have never really spent anytime firing a pistol ( I am 58). I bought my first pistol a few weeks ago. First range day was unimpressive. I hit the target but not consistently. So, went online to figure out how to fix my shooting. I found your lessons and started training, with a plan. Wow what an amazing difference. Next range day, I could consistently place shots exactly where I intended. I can easily group five rounds into a 1 inch circle at 30 feet. With one eye closed, for now Still working on keeping both eyes open. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. Makes lining up the target a lot faster for me. Concentrating on the front site while lifting weapon into position.....everything lines up so quickly. If you think about it, you'll not likely have time to extend arms a not settle in for when you need to shoot. Think old western shooting. Few actually aimed with sites....shot from the hip. Finger pointed at target. Look at marksman videos, fastest draws etc. As an example, you come out of bedroom get shot in arm from burglar and have to shoot from a prone position in pain. Or similar outside...target shooting isn't same as real life. What he says about eye movements..its true
@GryphonIndustrial7 жыл бұрын
I got this a bit late but this has been really enlightening. When I paused at the 10:00 mark for your exercise to stop saccadic movement. I could actually FEEL my eyes trying to jump around while focusing on the front sight! After about 20 sec I could hold it better and not notice any background movement. It's something I never would have conceived and marksmanship aside I'm still glad I checked this out.

Thanks Chris for your Over The Top informative Vids. I am an Armed Security Officer and because I was based in Australia, and now I am back in Italy, I really couldn't practice that much at the shooting range over there, as they have really strict rules for guns, even if it's a tool we constantly work with everyday for our job. In Italy it's easier to own your personal gun, so finally at least I will go from now on every week, at the shooting range to practice. Your videos are truly unbelievable and I thank you for helping everyone here to improve our skills. I am not that good, mainly because in Oz I couldn't practice. I promise I will improve a lot of gaps in my shooting. God bless you man and so your Family. I already signed as a member in your website. Thanks again for everything. Carus 👍👍👍😁

Wow. Thank you Chris for this awesome video. I watched this last night and hit the range today. My groupings are amazing. Wished I could show pics but basically my 5 shot groupings looked like 2 holes on the paper. I tried this a couple days ago at the range and my shot grouping improved tremendously. The day after my weak eye vision was a little blurry - due to strain. I expect that the blurriness will go away after some practice. I have to modify techniques that I learned 45 years ago and I think it'll be worth the effort. Great vid! These principles will be immediately familiar to anyone who served in the Marine Corps. Here's a trick I use in daily life to help my focus and marksmanship....as I walk down the street, or through the park with my dog, I keep a dispersed focus, taking in as much visual information as possible. Ten I choose one thing to focus on, and change my focus to tunnel vision on that object. Then I raise my arm, all the while keeping that focus, so that my index finger appears in my field of view, and covers half the object. Then I change my point of focus to the tip of my index finger, making to object blurry. Its kind of a 4 step process from start to finish. I take my time at first, then see how fast I can go through all four steps- keeping them all distinct.

Back in the day during a fierce, up close fire fight, we troopers only pointed and shot our 1911 Colt .45 ACP pistols at an approaching enemy that was less that 5 to 7 ft. from our position. After the war, I never fired a firearm again. Recently I decided to start shooting pistol range rentals to see if I still had the skill in shooting from 3 yds. away. Boy, did I suck! I had my eye glued on the target and not on the front sight. My groupings were all over the place. Now I plan on taking your advice and start concentrating only on the front sight with a blurry back round target. Thanks, Chris.

I'll assume you already made your purchase, but I'll go ahead and say the Glock 19 would be an excellent choice. I am biased naturally as Glocks are all I own, but there's good reason why the G19 is one of the most popular 9mm handguns out there. Are there better guns out there...of course, but at that price point you'd be hard pressed to find it! Good luck!

It's not so much the "right" pistol. The important thing is to become proficient with which one you choose. If you are looking to step into CC, you need a lot more training than what is taught in the classes for CC. You're making a great investment in personal and/or family protection by going this route, and I applaud you on your decision. Shoot regularly, take some advanced courses (as an example tacticalresponse.com) from people who have combat experience and practice, practice, practice. It may be the difference between life and death in a bad situation. You will walk away with knowledge, experience and the confidence to handle whatever could come up in your life. Note: I am not affiliated with any professional courses or any of the people in the link I gave as an example. It's just the closest one to my location. There are several excellent courses scattered across the country.

Chris. I have read your book which I dissected and practiced religiously. I’m retired LEO and was a decent shooter but i want to get into competitive shooting. More than one person has told me that this “looking at the front sight” is old school and that now you should be target focused. Can anyone chime in on this? Now with red dots they are saying to look through the glass and not at the dot. So confusing. On my channel I just did a review of a gun and I’m shown shooting the weapon. I’m pretty decent hitting my steel plates but I kinda have a half and half focus. This has been a conundrum for me. Thanks for any feedback.

This is range shooting really. Nothing is better than going to the range and actually shooting. Muscle memory is what the key is. In a situation of self protection, you do NOT want to stand and send rounds. You need to practice to shoot at moving targets and learn to move as you shoot. Practice shooting from compromised positions. Good video for basics though

Don't think I need improvement with my rifle skills (I shoot about 1.5 MOA @ 150 yds) but if there is new info I'd surely appreciate it! Thanks for your excellent tips and for your dedicated service to the Country and it's people. SSG Rick

When focusing should I have both eyes open or just my dominant eye?

I've been shooting for years,and I thought I was a pretty good shot,until about two years ago when I saw this video,and since then I have applied this front sight focusing, and WOW!!! Groups at 2 in" at 10 yards with my Glock 19.. this video was GREAT!!!I really impressed the young guys at the range!!!

How can you hit something at, say, 80 yards with a handgun if you're focused on the front sight? If a target is that blurry at 15 yards, what's it going to look at when it's 80 yards away?? Not trying to sound condescending. I'm honestly curious. Maybe there are other techniques for further targets???

+Chris Sajnog I watched the video. I'm just saying that I can't see the target at all from 80 years while focused on the front sight. Perhaps I need more practice. I appreciate you getting back to me.

+Chris Sajnog : I've been consistently grouping rounds within a paper plate size metal silhouette at 100+ yards. Been doing what you're teaching here without knowing it's being taught. I came by it after 40+ yrs of practicing faithfully and thousands and thousands of rounds. What you're sharing with others DOES work and I can say based on my own path/journey to get where I am today that it WILL shave MANY yrs and lots of $$ in bullets to anyone willing to practice what you're illustrating. I've always said; "ACCURACY first and foremost!" Throwing lots of lead in the air "towards" your target is a complete waste of effort and can get you killed. "Hitting" your target with a well placed round is what its ALL ABOUT - period! It all comes down to that ONE round. New subscriber. Thanks for sharing your KSA (knowledge, skills, and abilities) with others. I have a personal question/favor to ask. What's the best way to reach you? Thx in advance.

Harrison, I understand what your saying. And at that point i would be looking at the target, get a few rounds off. If you miss you miss, it will allow you to lay suppressive fire and get the hell out of there or re-position your self at a better advantage. Im glad you posted this comment, at a range shooting paper or dummies, you can do what you want and test out works for you. But like i said a few seconds ago, if things went down, thats how I would handle it.

That was amazing ! Looking forward to giving it a try. Thought it was my old eyes when my son's shoot a 3" group @ 25yds, and I'm lucky to keep with 6". Thanks. Very well explained with great visual aids !! Just subscribed

I know this is old but hopefully you still get notifications. But everytime I shot while focusing on the front sight a get double vision. I see two sights every time unless I focus on the target

I'm seeing more comments about this now, but not a single response to it. A lot of us have this going on but I can't find any guidance on it.

i have worn progressive glasses for years, front sight focus is not possible without tilting your head way back. so i came up with my own method, I place the whole slide top and sides centered with what ever i am shooting at, leveling off the top, works great on non moving targets, works for me. to be clear its like projecting the shape of the man target with the shape of the slide and front sight. leaving equal distance on both sides of the sight picture.
@knastera9 жыл бұрын
This works! I used it using my new Smith and Wesson .40 and I tore the center out of the target.

great exercise... I have not done this for awhile...funny I close my eyes, a black screen with the front sight shows up. All black but the front site is white lol great video

This was one of the most clear, concise focusing videos I have ever seen. Great stuff. The optical illusions were amazing, never thought about using these in this context. I think I will be putting this on targets for dry fire practice at home. Thank you

I'm right handed, left eye dominant, so trying to train with BOTH eyes open is a challenge. You're right Chris, you have to TRUST your mind and not focus on the target, especially with my situation. I use a ball point pen when I'm working...Hold it so it's pointing up, like my front sight would be, then bring my hand up and try to quickly focus on the TIP OF THE PEN, and NOT the target. This seams to help me...Thanks for a great video!

Hey Chris. I've tried focusing on the front sight countless times, but I've found it to hinder my accuracy because I see double of my target. I can correct the double vision by either closing one eye or focusing on the target instead of the front site. Is there anything that you would suggest?
@captmorgan1014725 жыл бұрын
Same for me Michael. I have seen/heard millions of times to focus on the front sight. Whenever I do this I always see double blurry targets and it is pretty much impossible to hit it with any kind of accuracy. For me, focusing on the target is far superior to focusing on the front sight. By focusing on the target, the target becomes clear and the front sight is sort of superimposed on top of it. I get vastly better results this way. I guess you should just use whatever works best for you.

Michael L. This is the same issue I have. Ive looked through many of these comments and this is the only one addressing this. It is definitely difficult to shoot at two blurry targets. Maybe our eyes are different? I’m not sure.
@ckirkman28085 жыл бұрын
Try squinting your non dominant eye just a little as much as it takes to regain that front sight and try to ease it back to your limit. That's what worked for me hopefully it helps there are also vids out there describing other techniques. Good luck.
@justinmaxwell49254 жыл бұрын
Same here. I always just focus on the target and use a peripheral focus on the front sight.
@dpapaioannow4 жыл бұрын
@@ajep1943 your eyes are not different when it comes to sending these kind of information to your brain and back...unless you have a defect problem....you're fine,either way works the same if you just slightly squint your non dominant eye like the guy said,you can do a simple experiment with no gun at all,pretend that the first joint of your index is the front sight and aim at something as steadily as you can,when you hard focus on your finger the target gets double and vice versa....in either case when you squint your non dominnat eye just enough....the doubling goes away,no need to move your aim to compensate....repeat the same principle with your gun,provided you still maintain good stance good grip etc it's no big deal really when you practise long enough

I had to qualify for a position on the reserve sheriff's(many years ago). Our instructor at the time taught us this method. It completely changed the way I shoot! I have taught it to my boys and their shooting ability is astonishing, (of course I'm biased but, hey..) 😂 They are still a good shot! Thanks for the video. I will use this as a refresher!
