I think jump shots are a great thing to have in your arsenal. I switched to a medium tip a few years ago because I tend to get similar if not the same action I did out of a soft tip. The medium tip helps make jump shots a bit easier. I've also seen Alex Pagulayan shoot down into the cue ball to hit the top of the object ball and have that object ball jump over an obstacle. That situation doesn't come up very often, and I've practiced that shot as well, and has been a handy technique to know.

: ) Jumping!!! Not as easy as most think ... for a legal jump! What many are doing is actually "scooping" the ball, not jumping --- AND they're not being called on it; well, because most don't know the difference -- either by doing it or watching it done. Best to PRACTICE and find what you can do ... ensure though, that you research and understand what is "legal" ... AND ask knowledgeable/experienced "others"!!! Advancing yer game is always a benefit! As a kid, playing in places I did - Jumps wasn't allowed/permitted!!! Asking about the rule (house rules)... they said most weren't legal anyway because most didn't know how and it tears up the table (cloth). Jumping - a very handy tool when ya need it!!! Your tall stature makes it a bit easier for people like yourself to full cue jump. My towering 5'7" self struggles with a full cue jump compared to my 6'3" friend who has a great deal more leverage over the shot than my short self. Great advice Brian. Just wanted to let the short folks know it's a bit tougher being a midget

Turn your hand over. Practice your dart/European style hold of the butt end of your cue. Will help. And no matter your height. If the ball your jumping is close to the cue ball. Use this style 😉

Hey i am also 5'7 and i learned to jump with a house cue. One thing that really helps is you have a steel joint because it moves the balance point forward. All that being said. I can jump with a playing cue about as well as anybody. But i have to choke up and shoot it side arm. Best advice to a shorter player is to anything over 35 degrees start trucking your elbow in to achieve more elevation. This gives back the leverage. But you really have to focus on delivering the cue straight

Once your elbow is a few inches above your shoulder. To achieve more elevation start tucking your elbow in. This also helps with masse shots.

I know that it's complicated. But how about a video explaining where to aim when adding English. And only to use English if needed but to rely upon speed and natural angles usually. Also to stay away from inside English and why. Thanks FX❤

An illegal jump is called a scoop shot. It's when your tip strikes the cloth and the ball at the same time. Making it jump. A legal jump is when you raise the butt end of your stick and strike down 👇 upon the cue. Making it jump. A bit harder than a scoop. But once you get used to it, it's not bad

I use a P3 with a revo shaft as a playing cue and I feel like jumping with that cue is easier than my jump cue lol

Hello, Bryan. Just a quick question. Do you think most people play better with a smaller diameter size shaft say 11.75 compared to 12.25? Was thinking about getting another shaft but was unsure if I should size down..Thanks.

I use a 12.9 right now. The smartest in my bag is 12.4 The problem with the smaller diameter is it is less forgiving but it does put more spin on the ball. I’ll usually take more forgiving.

i think its silly that in APA you can't use break cues to jump with (i could maybe understand not removing the part to make it a jump cue). there is no rule that disallows you from using your breaking cue to shoot other shots with, and no rule that disallows you from adding an extension and then removing the extension from a playing cue.

There’s a part of the no jump, cue discussion that most people miss. That is the fact that most APA matches take place in bars and other places where they don’t want amateur players trying to jump the ball on their equipment. Thanks for watching

The playing cue is not ideal. The idea is to be able to jump when you’re not given a choice. A jump cue is going to always be easier and more accurate. Thanks for watching.

A pro 9 ball game would last 20 minutes and you would have to give up the 3 foul rule. 9 Ball would become a safety game like straight pool. The jump as been around since the 50s. Regardless of what my man Earl says. Thanks for watching.
