If there's one thing I've noticed by watching higher skilled players in our APA league, it's that all of them have complete control of their shot speed. It doesn't matter about making a shot or getting position, speed control can make the difference between winning and losing. Thanks for another great video!

I agree. All good and better players do that well, making the next shot easier rather than harder. Controlling whitey is the most important aspect of pool, in my opinion.

All the pros I watch aim at the bottom of the cue ball. On every shot. I have also been aiming very low on my shots, and it’s really starting to work for me. Especially on stop shots. No matter the distance, I aim low. Great timely video👍👍

I followed your instructions for using the same stroke and tip placement on the cue ball, I do have an 8' draw shot if I need it, a change in power/speed works for different length stop shots. Thank you Bryan for helping me improve my game 🙂just wish the improvement was faster 😆

For long stop shots, I just shoot a medium draw shot. the only issue is being perfect on the angle so it doesn’t stun off the ball. By the time the cue ball reaches the object ball it has lost it’s reverse spin and has not yet picked enough forward spin to turn into a follow shot.

Wow, thank you for helping me find the gremlin that has been messing with my stop/draw game lately. I was "advised" by a "trainer" that if I wanted more effective long draw, I needed to lengthen my bridge. I'm taking this back to the practice table and going back to a bridge distance I'm already successful with.

Great info, as always, Brian. I appreciate how you always give us “real world” advice that we can immediately apply to our games. I’m going to try shortening my bridge on shorter draw shots because of this video. I, too, suffer from “Efrenitis,” using too long a bridge for some shots, so I’m going to work on it. Thanks, brutha!

I'm pretty good at short and medium stop shots but the long ones I have trouble with the power required and I believe that effect my accuracy in my stroke.

I really liked this video. Some good info on how to shoot a stop shot. I always adjust the spot where I hit the cue ball depending on the distance to the object ball. I also adjust the speed of the cue ball. I am an intermediate player. I have trouble shooting a long straight shot...always put some English on the cue ball. Need to keep working on it. By putting the balls close and then moving them farther apart. Thanks for the videos. You are an excellent teacher.

I have a unique 80 year old pool stick. It's a hand carved, hand painted Japanese pool/walking stick. Besides being pristine condition and being super old, it has a unique aspect. The shaft enters into the butt end when you want to make it back into a walking stick. The reason this is so cool is because the A.P.A. doesn't allow jumping or masse sticks. And dart/European style for jumping or masse can be extremely difficult using a playing cue. But A.P.A. says nothing about a weight that is on the butt end that you can remove in 2 seconds. The butt end has a weight and then a weighted brass tip also screws into the round weighted end piece. So you can adjust weight as well! Anyways the problem is that it has an 11mm tip! So I'm looking for a shaft that fits that has a 12.6mm tip. My question is what kind of tip, with what hardness, should I put on it? So I could have the best Universal: Shooting/Jumping/Masse stick??? Oh BTW the hand carved/hand painted butt end has a picture of Japan with the cities names painted on it. And one of the cities is Hiroshima before the bomb was dropped on it! Pretty cool! Thanks Brother 🦈🎱🦾👊❣️

Maybe a Kamui hard - but since you won’t be jumping as much as you’ll be playing, a medium, might make sense as well.

Thanks Brother much appreciated! 👍 Went to an 8 ball tournament of about 30 guys the other night. After not playing in 3 months. And I got to the semifinals! Once I actually own a table IT'S ON!!! 🔥 😂 My dream is to become pro. not just a A.P.A. 7! Hope to play you someday! 👊🦾🎱🦈❣️

I think I have the exact same one is the design a dragon?? I always known them as gadget sticks, I found mine for $10 at a resale store. A friend hook me up with a mutual friend that dealt with pool antiquities. He told me it was handmade but mass produced in Taiwan between the early 1940s to the mid 1960s and would sell for around $40. What does yours have for a handle? I'm not convinced mine is the original, it's a very heavy, brass Eagle head. I was thinking it would be a good Masse stick, it has a very hard tip.

Very cool story. I may try this - this gives me an idea to try as I will occasionally jump with my play cue during APA matches, but only if the conditions are right. Thank you for the idea and the great story. Would love to see that cue.

Bryan can you please make a video about Shane and Efrens stroke and why we shouldn't copy them? I see so many people trying to mimic them and they develop this diving stroke where the tip dives into the cueball. This sets people back years and since they do make some of these shots they believe they are doing it right.

People that try to mimic Shane and Efren are what we call customers. I’m not sure it will be a full video, but we have mentioned it before in the podcast. Thanks anyway, for the idea.

Hey, Brian, thanks as always for your insightful videos! Questions for you: I understand that you use the same tip contact point for all your stop shots and vary your speed to get a perfect stop. But how have you learned stun shots where you need a sliding CB and you need to hit a specific speed to control how far the CB moves? Do you vary your tip position on stun shots? If so, how did you learn the tip positions required for specific speeds?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 8 ай бұрын
Stun shots I shoot pretty much the same way, and I learned it simply by putting in reps. Just run off racks in any order and you’ll get in more reps per hour than playing eight ball or shooting balls and rotation. You will get a feel for those angles five times faster- thank you very much for watching

Gotta have a stop shot. And it's a total feel shot that take practice to develop. Might I suggest, instead of placing the object ball a couple of diamonds from the corner pocket, place it right in front of the corner pocket. Why? Because your less experienced players will become frustrated and distracted by missing the shot. The object is to learn to stop the cue ball dead in its tracks. How many times have you seen a player follow the cue ball right in the pocket with the object right in front of the pocket? A bunch, no doubt. Once the player can stop shot with the object ball right in front of the pocket, then they can start walking back the object back from the pocket and practice the shot.

I get where you’re coming from wrt people needing consistency with their shots, and here you’re focusing on the point they sim at and hopefully strike the cue ball for draw and stop shots. However; I’m personally not a fan of varying speed instead of strike location. I’d rather use the speed appropriate to the shot (just enough to make the object ball and get cue ball position) and for me that means lower strike and slower speed for 7’ stop shots instead of shooting harder with same strike point as a 1’ stop shot.

What!? Nobody likes stop shot drills!?!? I’m that guy that does at least 2-3 racks of stop shot drills. 9’ table, I line up the balls on the 3rd diamond and shoot from the other 3rd diamond. Edit; in my UN-professional and amateur opinion, cue ball control starts with this shot.

Mark Wilson teaches a 6 diamond stop shot using a radar gun. He wants you to learn it slowly. I believe under 7.2 mph. It is not easy to be consistent that slow.

I’ll say this in a nicest way possible - I spend a lot of time working with people to undo many of those 1995 approaches to teaching pool. Some people think the more complicated you make it the better it is- when just the opposite is true.

@FXBilliards I'm hearing you loud and clear! I've heard that from others as well. I like the idea of having one spot to hit, and then adjusting speed/ power. This reminds me of your sidespin concept of the same spot, different delivery. Makes it easier to be consistent
