Really cool to see this setup work! I just shot an exterior day scene over the weekend, and while it turned out well, i definitely could have benefitted from wrapping the sun a bit more. Also, forget the Meike drop in adapter, get the one from Breakthrough Filters, it's 1000 percent better, as long as you're using PL lenses...

No internal filters for Red is a nightmare. Got a Ronin 2 / Blackarm camera car rig that got very tricky at sunsets, especialy when dealing with the car lights as reflection became very present, or not enough for us to pickup during shooting. Red still don't care about this, that's crazy. If Sony would have released the Burano at 15K$, Red would be no more.

After shooting a feature with a DIY Anamorphic setup (albeit a projector scope) I never want to deal with DIY Anamorphic adapter setups again. Currently have Nanomorphs that do the trick but I’ll inevitably get something nicer when I have more money.

Would you ever do a cove lighting setup instead of bouncing if you missed the sun or weather changed?

Complicated. Forest is a giant soft box and very different. This seems very complicated not least because if the blocking. This is an example of not really keeping things simpe. Shoot your subject with a decent background so find the right location. Reversing it is ridiculous it isnt going to work, let alone in a similar way regarding lighting. Also unfortunately what often lets down thisse kind of films is hair and makeup. Stray hair is a dead giveway of rushing the shot. Also unfortunately casting becomes an issue. If you are shooting someone who is photogenic then they can make the shot. Its the bare minimum for an actor or model and unfortunately im not sure that most productions on a budget get this right. No matter how much production effort you expend what is in frame has to be enough to hold your attention even if it was shot on an iphone. The rest is a bonus and the trick is to have a flexible and agile set up that doesn’t slow down the essential process if getting the shot ready properly ie wardrobe hair makeup and blocking before the camera and light get anywhere near a take. The effort and honesty is always appreciated. Thx

@@JustinPhillip I appreciate the response and given how many youtube channels are out there i would rather the standard was raised generally rather than adding to the noise. There is very little that i have learned that wasn’t common sense and pretty obvious. Its just not that complicated and I have thought it is mostly too obvious to explain. Some simple physics but frankly 90% of the skills required are all things we all have and use in everyday life. We carry around phones and see the world in stories. Complications obviously come when that is subverted by a filmmaking process and scale and you need to create an illusion to extend shooting time with actors under controllable conditions but again simple common sense and cost are usually causally related to the outcome. Trying to do things on a budget to look expensive is often the premise of much of youtube and its understandable but not wholly desirable as a working model and not really the way i work. Besides there are probably more important things to communicate these days. Thx for your efforts and energy. I understand that its not easy running a channel and making content let alone monetising that if that is your ambition to do so and balancing other work. Always appreciated. Thx.
