I have been shooting compound most of my adult life using pure back tension releases, so the concept of using your back muscles to draw and execute a shot is one I fully understand. Still, I just got my first recurve bow and shot a little last night and it took me by surprise how much it is NOT like shooting a compound bow. I discussed my plan to buy a recurve on Archery Talk asking what pound limbs I should get. I had planned to get something in the 36-40# range since I shoot a 53# compound, but was told by many recurve shooters to go lighter. I decided on some 26# limbs and so glad I did because even at 26#, it takes some to hold and execute a shot whilst trying to use the proper technique described here. I had watched a lot of videos prior to my first attempt, including this one, and thought I had it down. Well...I did not. Don't get me wrong, I hit the target, but I can see now it will be some time before I can hit the target well enough to even think about tuning my bow. I did some basic tuning, again using some of your videos and others, and I am pretty decent bow mechanic, so I know it's close enough for me too work on form, but it will be some time before I am consistently grouping arrows. Anyway, just wanted to mention that this is an excellent video on the steps needed to shoot a recurve bow. It really takes into account what it's like to be a beginner with no experience, and the steps needed to become proficient. I am confident it's enough for me to get where I want to be, but if not I may consider signing up for more formal training. Well done and thanks !!

I've tried many many visualizations to keep the release and follow through in shape. For whatever reason the "scratching the neck" visualization is MAGIC!! Can't thank you enough.

When will you aim? It sounds like you aim first then continue to pull until the click and then release. Won't that pulling shakes the body?

I like that you took your shirt off for to better display your shoulders. My wife likes it too, but she's not an archer. Hmm?
