@@halloweendonut4355 it depends on how clunky they are. i feel like, at least for me, they hinder your movement in your hands and/or accidentally mess up the shot. but if it’s thin enough i guess it can work??? though i personally don’t recommend it

When I was younger I wanted to learn how to shoot bows like medieval adventurers, but the local archery club only had, in my young words, 'ugly bows' (aka compound bows). So, I got a pretty cheap recurve bow and a leather glove at a ren fair and I was super excited to try it out. KZbin wasn't really a thing then, so I just went in completely blind. After a few shots, the string came off and hit me right in the face. Had a red line going right through my face for days and dropped it after that. Was thinking of getting back into it with some better research this time (and a better bow haha), so this video is a great help, thanks!

Excellent advice!! I agree with every point you made. But I'd like to reiterate your point about starting out with a low draw weight bow. If you are struggling to pull the bow back, it's difficult to focus on shooting. If it's easy to pull, it's a lot more fun too. Great video, thanks for posting.

Great video, mostly good reminders but also learned something new. The golfbal trick will help a lot with my release. 1 thing I also learned is the not hold your bow, but to let it rest on the palm of you hand when pulling back the arrow. I have a leather band around my bow and wrist and let the bow fall after each shot. Again great video I really enjoy these video's.

Thank you so much for your videos being able to make my own bow has always been something I wanted to do since I was a young child. And your confidence and passion really shows and inspired me to try it, and it went well till I got some twisting in the top limb and eventually led to a small crack I didnt see before hand. But I'm not going to give up now that i get to go back to work at the wood shop I have plenty of resources to keep trying. And by this summer I will have a functional bow. And just cause the first one failed I will keep going cause its important to me to teach my boys that no matter what task they do, "IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY, TRY AGAIN." Don't give up too easily persistence end up paying off.

I had a question i was wondering if you could answer, the longbow I just bought is bamboo backed and it has a very light beige stain. I'm interested in dying it a darker colour, and wondering what the best way to do that would be and if it would compromise the integrity of the wood at all. i'm also interested in wood burning or in some way putting some designs on the front of the bow, and again wondering if that would at all comrpomise the integrity of the wood. hopefully you can let me know because google sends back mixed results !

Thank you for this. The golf ball idea is great. I've been practicing for a couple weeks with a pretty badly warped, traditional recurve bow. I'm assuming this isn't going to help my aim? I don't know. I'm a total newbie. My upper back and my abs are pretty sore so I think my form is decent. My release has been a pain though. After recording myself in slow motion I noticed two things. One, just before I loose each arrow, 9/10 times my draw arm moves forward an inch or two. Two, when I release, I tend to pull my hand away from my cheek instead of letting it glide back. Even though I am consciously telling myself to do that, it won't. Being able to imagine a golf ball on my shoulder and giving myself the objective of gently grabbing it I think will help with my grouping drastically.

While target bow shooting or hunting does it matter which is your dominant eye and should that come into play when selecting a compound bow. Please answer because I think this is important too me. Thx
@fgjfjdfghjsfghjsfj
@fgjfjdfghjsfghjsfj 3 жыл бұрын
Release and holding the bow in a loose grip is more important than aiming. Get those two wrong and aim wont matter anyway :) But string crawl is a good way to start, tip of arrow is always on target and you adjust elevation by moving the tab up or down the string. Easiest method to get consistency, just far fewer variables than other methods so mistakes in form are easier to iron out
