Yup, i picked up a 1975 50# kodimag when i was a teenager for 45$ at a swap meet. And yeah at my 30” draw it stacks pretty hard in the last couple of inches. I wouldnt say its miserable to shoot for me, but its not the most enjoyable.

Well 150+ pound bows were not necessarily uncommon per say but not every archer shot one. We literally have them from the Mary Rose and documentation from Ming and Qing dynasty recording the weights of the bows of border troops and imperial guards. Ming troops were generally required at least 80 pounds. 100+ was common for Ming and Qing soldiers.

Cut past center riser and run a low gpp stiffer arrow. The cut past center will allow you to go stiffer on the arrow which allow a slightly faster arrow by absorbing more of the bow energy . Same principle compounds used to get speed numbers. The beginning of the overdraw riser era. The bow grip itself moving foward of the limb fades, this will require something in the riser itself to stiffen the riser to allow 2 things the cut past center and to make the grip to fades more rigged. Mabe build a carbon plate laminated vertically through the center of riser . This also has to account somewhat for string coming closer to the riser . So basicly just making power stroke with the limbs not needing to come back as far into the draw. Now will thier be hand shock ?? Dont know but which do you want 300fps or something that feels smooth. Stored energy is just that stored energy once you set it free ,how to controll it directionaly?

Been watching your videos for years. Your content is excellent and inspiring! One question though, I've seen you shoot both split finger and 3 under and am wondering why? Different bow type? change over the years? Just curious...

Thank you and you are the best. All the ones I watch I like you the best. And thanks for the bow string. I’m just starting archery. Although in college, I took a class and got an A. I am starting with a Recurve Bow. Then I’m going to compound. But I’m with you until then.

I am an old fart and have been building recurvesand longbows for about 18 years and am now 80 and praying to get well. I told my two young grandsons that I will build bows for them in the spring if they pray for me. I used to buy all my equipment from Bingham but they are out of business. I can get most of the stuff from 3 Rivers except the wood for the handle. I always used action wood. Can you tell me where I can get it or something to take it’s place? Your help is so deeply appreciated. I’ll call you tomorrow. Rick

To be honest I agree with this man archery is way to expensive and I’d like to make it affordable for the poorest man my self I started my bowyers journey a year ago I have now made 10 bows which doesn’t sound like a lot but mine are made by hand no machines involved just me a knife and a file, my goal is to have a bow in the hands of anyone who thinks they want to do this keep up the good work !

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned using an over-centre mechanism for the release, but it seems the obvious one to me, using a light spring to make it self-locking would be advisable.

Try the PVC pipe. It flattens easily with heat and pressure. Should be able to cut it, flatten it into a sheet, and then cut it to size and glue it to the wood.

I will tell you a secret that I learned from my ancestors; You can make a bow and arrows for free. All you need is a hatchet or a knife and access to trees and rock (Slate is the easiest.) You can literally make a bow and a quiver of arrows in about 2 hours... without buying power tools or Home Depot wood.

The arrow has to be in the deepest point of the string when pulling. Or the string Will flex when releases letting the arrow jumping. This happens when you have all 3 fingers UNDER the arrow. You need to pull the arrow and string right. You need to have a finger OVER the arrow, in thet Way tour arrow is on the deepest point of the string. Getting all the power in the reales. And thats the whole point when realesing.

Interesting bow design there. The limbs look like they both have a hinge at the riser taper, is that on purpose. If so why? I thought hinges were a no no when it comes to bow building
