Incredible look into the actual workflow of producing a real world documentary. Having recently watch so many camera reviews, this video is such a breath of fresh air reminding us that gear is such a small percentage of creating the final product. The GH4 and A6500 are both years behind current technology, but as evident in this video still produces amazing footage. Would love to see more videos like this one.

@@caribbeanplaylist7442 really doesn't matter man. I've shot shit on all sorts of cameras. The lens matters more. All cameras today do pretty much the same thing

Possibly the best tutorial I've seen. I've been learning film making for a while but have never really felt 100% confident in what I'm looking at as far as a production set. Looking at your setup and gear used, I now fully understand each and every part as well as its use. It's crazy. Really appreciate this tutorial! I could totally make something professional.

Really helpful and fun to watch. As a newbie, I was a bit confused when you said that the key is on the opposite side of the camera, but I'm sure I'll get it eventually.
@andrewtaylor51036 жыл бұрын
I'm also not sure what he meant by saying opposite. Anyway, what you need to do is set up the key light and camera so they are on opposite sides of the interviewer. It would be light - interviewer - camera OR camera - interviewer - light. That will give you the far side key look he's using in the interviews

Quick tip I use on cloudy days is to flag above the subject so they're not lit from directly above. It creates nasty shadows under the eyes and it also reduces cue ball effect on people without much hair.

Great tutorial Tom. I like how compact your lights are and how fast they are to set up. The use of the RGB fill/kicker light is a very clever way to add a little bit of mood without having to deal with gels. Cool stuff !

I noticed on one your sets was the flash point light stand with the yellow metal adjustable light stands. After my new to me camera (sony a77ll) and all my old minolta a-mount film lenses that will work on my new to me sony a77ll camera. My very first bit of set kit from my lovely wife for Christmas was 3 of those flash points 9.5ft lightstands with the metal yellow colored adjustable clamps. I picked the spring loaded ones so things don't get banged are to much. Every little helps when all you got is just a little. It would be great to see a pro evaluate a piece of my gear. Maybe in one of your gear and set set up run throughs.❤

Mr Tom really awesome tutorial and Very straight forward, Is came tv 55 almost the same like deld 4 from dedo light in base of focusing the light as hard light, I have demand kindly may create low key lighting series as lighting dozen series which i like it because you used in it cheap lighting, so kindly i hope you create one for low key lighting with cheap lighting also, sorry for long comment but really what i like in your work, that you do not use expensive fixtures which are not affordable for most of us
