Dragonflies are all around us and are fascinating insects. In reality, they can be a challenge to photograph. Check out this video to see the unconventional way that I used to photograph these incredible hunters.

I have done macro and close-up Photography since 1980, now it is much easier with mirrorless digital Cameras, because you can magnify the view in the EVF and get the focus exactly where you want it. For shy Dragonflies and Butterflies I use the Sony A7RIV and A7RIVA with either the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM (70 cm close focus) or the old but very good adapted analog Tamron SP 300mm 5.6 Adaptall-2 (1.4 meter close focus).

I think you are correct. I've since got a digital camera since I did this video and it does make things easier. Maybe I should do a follow-up video? I like the rig you use as well.

What would have been nice the latest version Canon 100mm-400mm L is mii. That lens has four stops of i.s. plus focuses so close. But you figured it out. Nicely done and Love the music. Thanks for sharing.
