Back in paper scoring days there would be ties. Now with electronic scoring its pretty impossible to have ties. Also the perforation created by the B Zone would make heads on the targets sag if you had to bag them for rain.

Tactical timmies are usually too prideful to even try to compete.
@beardly0121 Жыл бұрын
@@PewPewNomNom Most guys in military special operations and police swat teams shoot competitions frequently. I see SWAT guys at nearly every match I attend. Some of the highest level competitions are literally hosted on military bases. Dunno what you're talking about man. Competitions are great for actual shooting skills. They're just not good for tactics obviously but that's also not the point of competition so it doesn't matter.

@Beardly 01 I dont live near a military base and we dont get swat or PD at my local matches. There are also no matches held at military bases anywhere in CA that I have seen on practice score. I wasnt so much reffering to swat officers or actual serviceman but more of the tacital basement larpers like my buddy for example who refuses to do competition because its a waste of his time and builds bad habits. Obviously its not good training for tactical applications but for pure shooting and weapon manipulation under stress its good.

John's natural resting point for his right hand is on his gun, all the time. 14:38, VALID QUESTION!!, As a fellow lefty on running left handed, when everyone goes the typical close-wise stage run, we gotta go counter for reloading muzzle safety. Don't get DQ'd like I did thinking I had to follow what everyone else was doing. "Because it's always easier to go left to right" ... That's exactly what right handed people say. 18:25, You can shoot steel last, a lot of bastard course designers will do this on purpose, but you'll burn time shooting steel last and some people will wait and burn time watching it fall. Best to hit them first if you can so you're not left waiting on the steel to fall. 20:02, "I got all alphas but yeah" lmao!

Speed shooting is a hard contrast from the defensive school of thought where we're learning to shoot behind cover, taking accurate and deliberate shots. The defensive instructors I've worked with always tell me to SLOW DOWN. I JUST started shooting USPSA this year, I've done a few casual competitions here and there, been shooting for a long long time, I like to think I'm an OK shot, but put a timer on it, and put speed to it, and the wheels fall off. I've learned from some of the guys who have been doing this for years, it's all about planning your course of fire, I'm sort of haphazard, they know what targets they will engage next, they are always thinking ahead, gaming it, how to be efficient, move the least distance, etc. They will easily do a course of fire in half the time.

@rangepanda Жыл бұрын
The thought process if you run empty standing at a position you will be doing nothing but a reload for 1.5 - 2 seconds. Thats time you are not accumuluating points/taking shots. If you reload while you are moving to a position, you have that down time no matter what so its not costing you to add the reload on the move.
@cnclife2739 Жыл бұрын
@Range Panda I totally understand why they do it, I just think it's a bad habit if you conceal carry. You never drop precious ammo on the ground if you don't have to. I get it's a sport, it just makes me cring.

@2:18 blatantly false. All competition shooters care about is how much better they are than you. I took a competition shooting course with Tim heron last year and it was one of the worst groups of gun guys I had ever shot with. All they cared about was how good they were, and how much they could show off. Didn’t seem like people were there to learn just how much they could flex on other people. I’d say I’m an above average shooter, and always trying to get something out of a course, but about a third of the way through I tuned out because the personalities at this course were unbearable. A lot of good technique and gear has come out of the competition shooting ring, but I would rather just appropriate it and never talk to those people

@PaulyP_13 Жыл бұрын
@@johnlatzke3631 Tim was great, the crowd that the course drew was awful. Left a really bad taste for competition shooting. Had guys trying to argue over line breaks and DQs. Just ego flexing. Not to say that doesn’t happen in the “tactical/self defense” group, just wasn’t expecting that from dudes who dry fire at a mini ADAP target in their basement for 4 hours a night. And the unwanted advice/“coaching” from other students in the class was obnoxious. I didn’t go to a course with Tim Heron to have a C class shooter explain why my exit was wrong.
@dmayeurjr Жыл бұрын
That’s a pretty heavy blanket statement to throw over ALL competitive shooters. Sure, there are some who have an ego problem, but there are many more who go above and beyond to help others. Taking one class and complaining about other students is upsetting, but it’s one class. The next ten you take may be amazing and full of great shooters. FWIW, my classes with Tim, and other competitors who instruct, wasn’t the same experience as yours.
