Tactical Rifleman

4 жыл бұрын

You see on the news, every so often, where a police officer, conducts a normal traffic stop: only to wind up with the suspect getting out of the car and shooting at the officer. While not common, this is the reality that every officer faces every time they do a traffic stop.
If the officer is seated in his cruiser, he then has to shoot through the front or side windows, depending on the location of the subject. Depending on the angle of the shot, the officer may have to offset his point of aim to the the desired point of impact. They teach that in most police academies. However, it is not covered in much detail.
So, to assist our brave officers in blue (and anyone else that can benefit), we have put together this quick video on shooting through auto glass. Knowledge is power.
Thanks for watching, and please feel free to leave your comments below. I read them all.

Aim where you want to hit and use more than one bullet. Roger that
@stephenfreeman2561

I think it's safe to say that most people, including myself, would initially and intuitively think that the glass would make the bullet deflect down lower. However, after thinking about it, it makes sense. The glass at the top of the bullet is hit and broken first. This leaves the glass at the bottom of the bullet still intact to better deflect the bullet upwards through the glass that is already more broken

I remember your old video with Rob about how bullets bounce under and most ricochet off the hood of a car. Which is why standoff from the hood is important. I see lots of cops training and using the hood as support/rest. That's just exposing themselves and setting up for a ricochet into their grape.

Due to so much being covered had to watch again for something you mentioned in one of your classes for all the other gents that have yet to take one. Once the hole is established with a sidearm and the target moves shift your body as best you can to keep your rounds going through that same hole, your attacker will move.

It’s really hard to do that when rounds are coming in the window too. The bad guy put 14 rounds through my window and I put 3 back through. My group on the glass was about 3”. I had already hit him at least 4 times out of the side door. I am still waiting for the autopsy report on the guy who lit me up. I had lots of rounds miss me by inches. My friend in the passenger side got hit in the mouth with a .40 cal fmj and it stopped in his neck. They put a steel jaw in for him and he is doing well.

One thing you missed is to place your muzzle against the windshield to reduce that glass blowback. Once you've opened a hole in the windshield, you keep your muzzle placed in it for followup shots. Side windows are made differently and you can just shoot through them wherever.

I've been thru some of this training before, Karl. Wish I'd been through this one. Best I've seen and I've pursued this an education of his imperfect process for some time. I know of a situation where a well-trained officer. who was trying to save a downed-officer, dumped almost an entire mag at an armed-subject, through front-windshield glass. He was making every effort to end the violent incident. Sadly, none of the rifle-rounds fired reached their mark, per the autopsy on the dead-guy. This type training is often over-looked, yet much needed.

I’ve done some training for shooting through a car windshield, and the way I’ve done it was to quickly put a few rounds through it in their general direction to make a hole to shoot through, then engage the target. However I’ve grown to know that cars in a gun fight are bullet magnets that afford very little in the way of protection, so I’ve emphasized to exit the vehicle if/as soon as possible. As well as, in the civilian world especially (whether that be police or as a civilian) you are responsible for every round you fire, and any deflection in those first few rounds could cause them to inflict unwanted injury to bystanders. Impo, there are better ways to, or rather more preferable ways, to engage a threat from inside a vehicle, like using the slot between the A pillar and the door when the door is open. It may take more time, but it may not, as you cannot account for the bullets deflection and as you know, you cannot miss fast enough to win a gunfight. Not saying there is no place for this, it definitely has a place and should be apart of any defensive or tactical training. Stay classy gents, -DC

Great video as usual brother. I took some training in CA hosted by LA SWAT. They told us the windshield glass will turn to fine powder and get everywhere, so they told us to hold our breath while firing (not so easy when you're in the fight or flight mode) and keep holding it until you can cover your nose/mouth with something, exit the vehicle or get moving and get some wind blowing through the windows. You don't want to get that fine glass powder in your lungs.

This was an amazing video. This reinforces my opinion of DO NOT shoot thru the windshield unless under the most extreme circumstances. These videos I see of officers shooting thru the windshield at fleeing vehicles, suspects that are like 40 yards away, etc are no bueno. Especially when they're not drilling those shots thru the same hole following the first shot. It is not worth it unless the suspect is actively shooting into your vehicle.

Glad to see someone else carry a glock with a conversion barrel, I got a gen3 G22 with a fluted Wheaton Arms match barrel......honestly a good thing to have if you're a prepper cause with a simple barrel swap you're back to shooting .40 cal, should you run low on either ammo you have that option to swap out but the accuracy with these thicker .40 to 9mm conversion barrels is phenomenal I fell in love after the first clip. Also I swapped out to G17 mags to eliminate any double feed issues cause your .40 cal mags will retain 9mm but with fully loaded mags the spring tension in the mag may cause a double feed which I didn't want to take that chance in the heat of the moment. Edit: I see you have 2 amish viewers who found shooting threw automobile glass uninformative. 🤣

@@tackytrooper this would work, if you weren't alone, and hemmed in by panicked or wounded driver's behind and/or beside you.

@@tonydowd8566 Well if the driver can't drive everyone who doesn't want to be dead better get out of the vehicle where they can take cover and fight. If you're alone and under fire in a parking lot, you shouldn't even be in the car.
