I could see by following your posts whilst away you had some pretty challenging times over there. But all that considered you still managed some noteworthy shots here Alister.

I followed the weather during your session......it was world class awful. Two days after your departure, there were nearly five days of sunshine. As you have preached frequently, just go out and do it. Bravo!!! Bill

Great info and advise. It made me think of my time visiting my son in hawaii island 11 years ago. I wound up creating a series of images that I called paradise subdued. Hawaii is not always sunsets and surf. This trip was gray and calm. No surf, no sun. I did a lot of detail photos in the flat light using texture as the focus. Lava rocks. Palm fronds. Etc. Also gray and flat seascapes for the mood. As usual your invites are refreshing and inspiring. Mahalo.

Hi Alister. Wow, so nice to see you walking, photographing and talking about this beautiful part of the planet. Bilbao is like that, it rains a lot, even in the summer. As I recall, you lived in northern Spain for some time. This museum is incredible, photographing it is an infinite pleasure, it is a practical definition of art, another example is the Cathedral of Barcelona, "sagrada familia", art in every sense. To what extent is photographing art, art in itself? gave us another discussion and video. From what I understand, you were in Pría's Bufones, I believe you know what "bufones" means, lol. It has all the logic. Another thing you said is so, so interesting and important, sometimes it's not possible to capture the grandeur of the moment or place in an image. I felt this well in the Dolomites, as well as in several places in Italy, last year. I keep looking for different types of answers in photography, according to my spirit, however people like you and Adam, came to validate dozens of images that I've been taking over the years and that didn't fit the reigning social parameters of good photographs, or at least acceptable. That wonderful light, as you caught it, and which has always fascinated me, where I composed what I felt and not what was given to learn as the right thing to do. I really like your coherence, we photograph what we feel, how we feel, in the environment we have and the way we interpret it. I traveled all along this wonderful coast from San Sebastian to Vigo, Caminha in fact, already in Portugal. I live in the Southwest Algarve, I am a son of the sea, our Vicentina coast is unique, primitive, ancestral and our climate is a poem. It will be a pleasure to see you around one day. It was a dream come true, in 2021, to visit this coast of northern Spain, as well as the "Picos de Europa", in some ways very close to mine, in others so far away. In another life, I would have loved to do this workshop with you, in this one, I am the father of two beautiful girls and it was with my family that I traveled for 19 days along this magnificent coast. I made a very beautiful photographic book of this trip, with artistic and personal weight, one of the foundations of photography, future memory, without being just something of a drooling father. Big hug and apologies for the testament. I look forward to more stories from this trip.

Thanks so much, and don’t apologise for the long post, it’s all really interesting commentary. Adam and I are reading it in the coast of Asturias as the sun goes down. Thanks again, much appreciated

Challenging conditions indeed. I've always struggled with coastal storm photography but it's one of the most exciting environments to get out with your camera. I'm often scared to take out my higher end lenses in case of sand/water damage but that's why I bought the lenses in the first place. Sand is a particular nightmare. All it takes is a single gust of wind and your £3000 lens becomes a pepper grinder. Not pleasant. I wonder if Adam will be doing a video from here? His channel has slowed up a bit. Though, can't really blame him what with juggling content production and paying customers.

Beautiful locations, though I'm not so sure of Mr Gibbs dance moves! Love that squint pear shaped stack and how it sits with the headland on the right. October you say, I'll recheck the price of kidneys 🙄

I thought this would be about how to save your skin (fingers and toes) in bad weather. It was -33ºF this morning here, and two days ago it was 30MPH wind for 12 hours. I got pictures, but the only thing that's important is not getting killed. Photography is not worth it.
