Love the tips! Super interesting that Alex overexposes in midday light situations. I’ve always been so hesitant to blow out the highlights but I’m going to give it a try.

That rear swingout bumper though. Any videos show off that landcruiser build?

You can definitely get away with breaking rules and Alex is certainly an accomplished photographer, but these are some of the worst tips or advice to give beginners (aka people who would watch a "how to shoot in midday" tutorial). 1. Alex is an "adventure" photographer and never uses a tripod since he finds them to get in the way so he needs to shoot wide open at f4 to reduce shutter speed and blur. But the average person will find it very difficult to shoot landscape vistas and get clean shoots with such a shallow depth of field. You should stay closer to f8 - f11 or maybe even f16 if you have a foreground subject and want the back sharp too. YMMV, but this is pretty common practice. 2. Shooting in to the sun is kind of sketch. Unless you want JJ Abrams lens flares and discoloration on your images or silhouetted subjects since the dynamic range of the image will be huge. 3. Telling people to overexpose their images seems kinda nuts. In most cases it is better to shoot underexposed. You can recover shadows a stop or two but blown out highlights is lost data. If you want to create the overexposed effect this can be done with software. Again Alex is a professional, but his advice is something I would take with a grain of salt as many people might leave a vacation with ruined photos.

This video is sketch mixed with some troll bait :) *taps side of nose* Someone needs to make a response video showing their overexposed, flared, f4 images and tout them as Alex inspired :)

Right on

I find it easier to overexpose just a little and bring it back. I get less noise that way. I also only shoot fx raw. So idk

I was like "No! Awful timing!" because I just got back from a trip to Utah, ended up photographing Arches NP and Canyonlands NP in harsh, clear-sky, 99-degree sunlight. But you guys are doing this in Washington, with wonderful clouds and stuff. Man, I love clouds. I don't think enough people appreciate clouds. But I think I did okay. Shot everything on 5 frame exposure bracketing. I might have rescued some shots after merging the exposures in Lightroom.

Moment: How to shoot at Midday Light: shot in a regular camera on an overcast day, Good job! (Note the sarcasm)
@anthonyvela215 жыл бұрын
Javier Flores well that’s just what the video is. They didn’t title it “how to shoot in harsh light”. That would be a poor choice for any photographer looking for good lighting. I mean one of the very tips Alex said was “watch the forecast”

weird in his workshop he says he underexposes hmmm
@brambijdevaate79786 жыл бұрын
there is a reason for that, if you overexpose you cant bring the burned overlit area's however you can always bring up the shadows (you will of course have some quality loss) but its better then having burned areas that you cant fix in post!
@MateoToro6 жыл бұрын
i know that I watched the workshop, but in this video he says he overexposes

I was hoping to get something out of this video about "Midday Light" and harsh shadows and high contrast. So, the title can be a little misleading. Also no results?! Almost 99% of photography videos I watched show the photos taken. Nothing except an iPhone close up in this one.

F4? Not good advice for beginners. For landscape if I don't have for ground, I use my sharpest aperture and that is different for every lens. Mine is f5.6. If I have good for ground, then I use f11 or f16 on tripod.
