Very valid point about more and more quartering targets being seen at grounds all over. The targets at the CPSA Worlds at Kelmarsh last year felt like 70-80% quartering or incomers.

Sir, is negative lead with swing through your preferred method for most targets?

Perhaps it's just the perceived angle on the barrel camera, but it looks to me that you have quite a bit of positive lead when you are pulling the trigger. What is that barrel camera you are using? Wonderful teaching tool and a way to self-analyze your performance on missed shots.

Agreed, it looks like a positive lead rather then shooting at the clay. Is it just the camera?

I thought the same thing and have come to realize that it’s a matter of what you see on the shotkam is very slowed down (3x). When you are shooting swing through you are supposed to “signal” to pull the trigger when you are on the bird. However the time between your head says “FIRE” and the signal get to your muscles and you actually pull the trigger and the gun discharges is a small but consistent fraction of a second. That is where your lead comes from is that delay. You see the shot being fired well ahead in shotkam but to make that happen you have to have “started to pull the trigger” when you see zero lead. So to you it’ll look like zero lead but to the camera and IRL it’s got lead. You have to have lead to break that bird. The utter beauty of swing through is you get lead without having to measure or see it. Your gun speed faster than the bird is what generates your lead. That’s why gun speed in swing through is critical to be consistent with and why if you panic: you swing too fast and miss in front.
