Thank you for your videos! Unfortunately I`m from a not too gun friendly country so I don`t have the "common knowledge" most of you americans have, therefore your easy to understand videos help me a lot. I have only shot airrifles / airguns, (won the first tournament I have ever participated in) and a .22 rifle. Now I plan to visit a trap/skeet range with two friends and am watching your videos in anticipation. The Piece of kit I learned to value really fast during indoor airrifle training was the humble baseball cap, it really helps with blocking out those ugly ceiling lights and helps you getting and staying on target easier.

How was your trap/skeet? Let me guess... it was terrible, because you were so focused on the bead and looking at the gun, just like you do with the air rifle. SHotgun is different, you need to focus on the target and only the target. With a proper gun fit, mounted under the dominant eye, you look at the target and the gun follows. It's like point shooting or snap/reactive shooting with a rifle. Good mount, see target, shoot the beak off.

It's actually best to give the club a call that you're going to visit. They can go over some of the things they offer you and what you need to be prepared when you visit. Don't be afraid to ask questions and tell them it will be your first time shooting on their range. If it's a good club, they will be very helpful and accommodating! Although it is highly suggested you get a pouch or vest. If you end up shooting a lot, it will definitely be more comfortable! I hope this helps!

I just started shooting clays. Well, shooting AT them. I even occasionally hit some. One thing is for sure, a pouch can be very handy to have, especially if you're built like me. I'm a bit... round so it's a little easier to find a pouch that will work than a vest. I used mine tonight for the first time and found it very indispensable.

Chris is a left-handed shooter! It generally comes down to preference on which you gun you would like to buy, however, O/U are definitely the most common style of gun for shooting trap, skeet or sporting clays. It's best to find a gun you find most comfortable. It could take a little, but once you find your gun you won't ever want to get rid of it! Ask around at the club you shoot at and get plenty of suggestions and tips for guns!

Good information for the beginner. Easy and clear. I can lonly add is that when a beginner gose to buy a trap gun that is balance, not loose or light. The light ones are the hardest to get resold and every club has someone trying to get rid of theirs. I like Browning, I shoot a SKB 5000. Has the balance, could be a bit heaver.

Thanks for the great info. I'm a beginner trap shooter, and I don't have my own gun yet. Should I start with a semi auto? Also, I'm left handed; are you as well? Do you have any tips or things I should look for when I'm ready for an o/u? Thanks!

not sure i'd recommend a beginner start with an O/U shotgun. most tend to be pretty expensive, especially clays models. i'd recommend beginners start off with a semiauto. they tend to be cheaper, soak up recoil, and are fantastically versatile. and wow are those ESP expensive!! i'll stick with my peltors... krieghoff, ESP, you really can afford the nice toys chris :) i bet you drive a lamborghini too :)

@willis5053 porting wont reduce recoil on a shotgun by much . It can reduce muzzle lift a little so helps on a 2nd shot. Porting the top barrel is therfore pointless as you wont be taking athird shot.
@rolandkee3352 жыл бұрын
A decade late... but porting on the top barrel is *not* pointless as it's not always the second barrel to be fired.

Any good O/U clays gun is going to have light recoil because it is going to be very long and very heavy. Most pumps are very short and very light, not a great way to introduce to the sport. you can find a few pumps suitable (eg remington 870 wingmaster) but they are not common and you'll end up spending as much or more than a good semiauto anyway. so you're not really gaining anything.

A pump is going to put them at a disadvantage for any game with multiple targets (doubles trap, sporting clays, skeet). But there is really no reason at all not to go with a semiauto. at best a limbsaver will lessen the shock on your shoulder, but your face will still get thoroughly beat up. and often it will increase the LOP enough to ruin the fit. If you have to fix a gun up with a limbsaver in order to make it suitable for shooting clays, you have the wrong gun imo.
