Shoot wirelessly to a computer with the CamRanger 2. Use the CamRanger 2 application combined with Lightrooms's auto import function to have images automatically transfer to Lightroom. Works with both Mac and Windows computers. Wirelessly tether with a Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm camera.

Great video. Camranger is such a great product but seriously you all lack in this type of content. Keep at it, people need ideas about how to use it. E.g., your mount to the camera. I finally figured it out but this should be out there by now. My shooting situation... just so you can chew on it if you haven't... on a tripod, with strobes (wireless trigger in hot shoe), battery grip on the camera, needing to go into the computer for clients to see. It seems my only goto is an L-bracket with the arca bottom plate, like you have with plate on CR2 on the side, in this video. That allows me to attach a plate to the bottom for my tripod, my trigger in the hot shoe, and a firm connection for the CR2 on the side. Maybe consider partnering up with someone like smallrig to get this right for guys like me. :) You need someone to put out videos to help with usability please let me know.

Have you tested the wireless tethering with Photo Mechanic 6? It has a Live ingest function for wireless gear like yours, however before investing, I would like to confirm it has been tested with PM6. I have the original Cam Ranger and have been very happy with its performance, including remote controlling my cam with an iPhone 7 Plus and older iPad 3. Cheers and thanks from Montréal.

If the live ingest function works properly, then there is no reason it shouldn't work. The CamRanger 2 is just the means of moving files in this case.

So that seemed to take about 9-10 seconds from the time you tripped the shutter until the file moved to LR. Seems you were only transferring a JPEG. So what size was that file? I am concerned that even for a small JPEG it would be nearly 10 seconds per shot to show up in LR. What is the time it takes for the same size JPEG to show up in just the CamRanger app? Also, when setting the CamRanger 2 to save Raw to the Card in the camera and transfer the JPEG to the app/LR, what is being saved to the SD card in the CamRanger's SD card? The original RAW file or just the JPEG? Lastly, especially if the previous answer is that the SD card in the CamRanager is saving the RAW file, does the SD Card in the CamRanger have to be the same size and speed of the SD card in the Camera? Or can it be smaller/slower and do you have a way to clear it during a shoot if it fills up before the Camera's card?

It seems to vary based on the Lightroom setup, but Lightroom does take a little while before it starts importing the image. A RAW image takes the CamRanger 2 about 4-6 seconds to transfer and the import time to LR is about the same as a JPG, maybe a second longer. The JPG image would appear in the CamRanger app about a half a second after it appears in the Finder, so it is just a couple seconds capture to display. Currently, you can only configure the CR SD card to save what is being transferred. You can reformat the CR SD card remotely. If you want RAW saved to the CR SD card and still have quick previews, you want to enable the Quick RAW mode. You can see examples of this in our previous videos (demo'd for Nikon and Canon).

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm unclear on whether CamRanger 2 can capture and transfer RAW files to LRC or to any other file on my IOS devices, such as my iPad or MacBook Pro. Please advice. Thanks.
@CamRangerVideos
@CamRangerVideos Жыл бұрын
iOS devices, iPhone and iPad, do not use normal file systems. So while you can save images to your device, you have to actually go through steps to transfer to another app. For a MacBook Pro, the CamRanger can just save images to whatever destination you want on the computer.

is there significant lag importing raws into LR as I see you only did jpeg and is there buffering that would slowdown the ability to shoot frames/second?
@CamRangerVideos
@CamRangerVideos 4 жыл бұрын
A full RAW file take about 4-7 seconds on average to transfer to the computer, instead of the 1-2 for a JPG, or Quick RAW. Nothing prevents your camera from shooting its normal frame rate. That is limited only by the normal in-camera buffer.

Is it possible to run the CamRanger app on a MacBook and an iPad simultaneously while using Image Transfer for the MacBook only, and allowing camera control through the iPad? So workflow would be roughly: control camera settings on the iPad and review and adjust raw files in Lightroom on the Mac?

Is possible to configure just to see the image in your laptop? (instead of save the file) And what software could be work for that? If the answer is yes, in this case, the image would be transfer (shows) faster?? Using a wi-fi 2.6 ghz and taking full RAW 46 mp Nikon D850 how long it takes to show up in the screen? Thanks

Whether the image is displayed or saved, it still needs to be transferred and the transfer time is the same. Please email support@camranger.com with further questions.

You can transfer individual images from the CamRanger app to Lightroom mobile. However, there isn't a normal file system on a mobile device so there isn't any sort of hot folder type of option.

With the first CamRanger the app crashes when using live view with the d850 on any iOS device I tried, it happened when there was movement in front of the camera after a few seconds. Was this a known issue and if so does it now work in camranger 2
@CamRangerVideos
@CamRangerVideos 4 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't happen with the original CamRanger and doesn't happen with the CamRanger 2. I would make sure you have the latest CamRanger firmware as that is required for the D850. If you still have problems, please email support@camranger.com

Seems very slow as opposed to a direct cable connection without using CamRanger. Also, not being able to access camera controls leaves this a VERY expensive option for wirelessd tethered shooting. Other features might justify the price, but not this particular feature IMO.
@CamRangerVideos
@CamRangerVideos 4 жыл бұрын
You can access all the normal camera controls if you do not select the "Image Transfer Only Mode". The example is for the workflow of shooting from the camera, where you would not be controlling the camera from the computer. So yes, if the CamRanger 2 only did about 2% of what it is capable of doing, then it would be expensive. The slowest part of the process is Lightroom importing the image. For some it can be inconvenient, for others it doesn't matter.
