I usually have good experiences with Etsy. However my last order was a Philo Painted Lady that looked exactly like a Culkin’s Gold when it arrived with a cluster like growth pattern and super pale almost green stems. I knew painted ladies have a vining growth habit and vibrant red stems. When I contacted the seller they insisted it was a painted lady and disclosed that it was a tissue cultured plant (never said this in the description/advertising). I told them I’d keep the plant if they could send me a pic of it’s matured state to ensure it grows into the red stemmed vining plant I thought I was buying. But instead they responded with a return shipping label. They knew that plant was NOT a painted lady!

Just got done waiting a month for a large Hoya Wayetii. Finally reached out to the seller who told me they had a death in the family and had to travel out of the country. I was very sympathetic and told them I'd be happy to wait a little longer, and was just wanting a shipping update. 48 hrs passed. No shipping notice, no refund. Reached out again and 48 hours after that, finally got another similar apology and a refund. ETSY still wanted a review and I was going to skip it completely (be the bigger person, right?) but the link led to her page.....where I saw someone had just left a glowing review for the plant *I BOUGHT* a month before. I still haven't left a review. I have also noticed other people were continuing to receive and review plants the entire time I was waiting on mine. Look, in the end, I really don't care. Her loss, and I've already bought 3 from The Green Escape which I will combine into one big plant for less money now. But I buy a LOT of plants and , often, expensive plants that I won't buy from her now. Not because she (accidentally?) sold the plant from under me, but because of the lack of communication (and lies??), and lack of customer service after the mistake (how about a discount to bring me back? a free starter plant? something?)

I recently bought a plant online that was sold as a fenestrated cebu blue pothos, only to realize once it arrived that it was NOT as blue as it was in the pictures and was actually a regular epipremnum pinnatum. And the mfing struggle to communicate with a seller that insists that they sold you the correct plant, ugh. Luckily I ended up winning the dispute and got refunded AND I got to keep the plant (though I was eager to return it), but that didn't happen without me sending a thesis's worth of proof that the plant wasn't a cebu blue. It was so stressful so I was about to just give it up and leave a low rating, but thank goodness I decided to appeal one more time. The poor plant was growing while in it's packaging for days too because I was expecting to return it, epipremnum pinnatums sure are as hardy as their aureum cousins

I've seen a lot of people talking about this the past several months, and it isn't just one shop! Even some of the big names outside of Etsy have been caught doing the same exact thing and I don't understand why they would just straight up lie to their customers.

I get 50% of my plants from Etsy and I’ve only ever had great experiences. I make sure to check reviews and I wait a couple of days to write a review once I get them in case there is an issue (only happened once and I got a full refund immediately). I love Etsy

I always go through phases where I am non-stop window shopping for hours or even days online. Going to several different websites, filling my carts with wishlist plants and then adding any new ones to my literal spreadsheet of wishlist plants. Thought I wouldn't be hitting that phase again for at least another three months but watching this is making me get that urge to go on a window-shopping spree. 😂

I buy soooo many plants from paper crane! I have never had an issue, they have great prices, healthy plants, perfect packaging and they ship super fast. Granted I live about 8 hours from their shop but still. They ship them out very quickly!

Tortum are absolutely one of the easiest plants! Was my number one wishlist and I ended up with two and they are both constantly putting out new growth

I got a cutting of a tortum from the plant dealer. It’s a slow grower for me but is not in an enclosure or has extra humidity just in my home conditions. I have two new grow points on the leaf cutting after about half a year. I’m sure if I can make it work, I’m 100% sure you will too if you get one.

I always check the shop reviews on Etsy until the seller becomes one of my trusted known sellers. I also will put plants in my cart and let them sit there until the seller sends me a coupon for usually 10-15% off. Then, if shipping is free or the discount covers shipping, I’ll buy it. Silver Plant Daddy, Succulents Empire LLC., Brumley and Bloom, A Planted Veteran and plantDemand are great sellers on Etsy. I have more shops saved to my favorites but these never disappoint me.

I do most of my plant shopping on Etsy also. Watching this video gave me an idea of how I look at plants on Etsy..lol. I just found a shop that has starter plants, that you have to buy 2. I love it because I can get more plants for the money❤️🙂. The starter plants for a good price. I have the Ficus Shivereana in my cart from them.. just haven't hit the buy button yet😁

"Ryan just texted me... {PLEASE STOP!!]" If you are interested in caudex plants, have you seen plectranthus ernstii? They're very affordable, non-toxic, and can tolerate many conditions. They start very slow, but probably any caudex plant does. It's underrated! Monolena primuliflora is another interesting caudes plant but it's 100% meant tor terrariums if you dont live in a humid area. I also highly recommend apobalis. I'm still learning its likes and dislikes, but it's not disappointing.

17:50 sophora prostrata is SUCH a cool plant! Though it's quite finicky, I've had it about a year and a half and I still haven't figured it out 😅 it didn't like pon, seramis was better, but I think the main problem was it being indoors. It seems to be doing tons better since being back in a soil mix and moved into an unheated greenhouse. Apparently it does shed (some of) its leaves for winter, but if you want to give the plant a go, I recommend growing them from seeds and experimenting a bit with growing medium and placement. Mine seem to like a mix of coco coir, perlite, and coco husk, though I'm not entirely sure anymore that's all I put in there, my mix varies :)

@@HarliG if you end up going for seeds, I followed red earth native plants "Growing kowhai" videos and had the same germination rate :) the seedlings grew about 10cm in height during the summer, it's a pretty slow grower at least for me

I've been buying on Mercari the prices seem a lot better than most Etsy. But I did just buy a white princess from Etsy. The shipping was more than the plant but I love it so much. 😍 My last Mercari order was a rooted variegated burle Marx for $5 it had 6 inches of nice white roots but it was shipped with the whole plant stuffed in a plastic baggie. The leaf had no air and the roots had zero moisture during the shipping so I'm a little nervous to order again. It's been a few weeks but the plant is still very sad looking.

Tortum isn't difficult. I was worried about it because the leaves are so narrow that it kind of reminded me of palms which are difficult to grow here due to our lack of humidity. I live in Colorado where my ambient home humidity is below 30%. Well, guess what? Tortum doesn't care! It has done fine. Not a single brown tip or edge and I repotted it recently and it didn't care either. And watching the new leaves unfurl is the coolest thing. It looks like it's giving birth to an alien. Do it!

I refuse to buy plants online… I want to see it first. Check it for pests, diseases etc. seen too many horror stories recently about being scammed, plants being double sold, the wrong plants being sent and seller blocking. Just scary. I’ll drive the two hour round trip to get my plants. Lol
