How to: Shorten Hele Box Length

In this video we show you how to shorten the length of your Hele Box to 5'6!
This configuration works for both the Hele Box Solo & Duo!
Step 1: Set up the frame in your vehicle
Step 2: Slide the "front" cross member back on the frame
Step 3: Remove the end pieces on the front of your frame
** In this configuration your Hele Box Frame is now sitting at just over 5ft 6in **
** You can move your seat(s) back an extra 6 inches **
Option 1: Leave these end pieces off while you are driving, and put them back into place before setting up for the night to get the full 6ft of sleeping length
Option 2 (For the short kings & queens): Lock the wooden slat into place via the additional set of holes resting on the adjusted cross member.

The vehicle used for this configuration was a 3rd gen 4Runner. We purposely pushed the frame forward to demonstrate the configuration - 3rd gen 4Runners fit the Hele Box with the seats slid to their full back position

Can't you design the long bars with push pin holes, so that front section doesn't need to be removed? Use a concept similar to what you do on the legs to raise and lower them. Place the holes 1" apart so the length can be adjusted from 6' downward. I don't like the idea of leaving those bars exposed to the passenger seat in my Element, and there's not 6" of room to add that piece you removed unless the bed were to fit and be placed over the seat if it's been fully reclined.

@@robinwilson8435 Using telescopic method laterally would cause a significant slope/bend in the frame and require thicker/wider tubing. We thought about going this route, but didn't want to compromise the strength of the system

How well would this work in a new Sienna? I noticed no mention of that model anywhere on the website.

On the fitment list under "mini-vans" it should work with any mini van that has 6ft of length and a relatively flat floor space when seats are stowed
