Hi Rick, your channel is so helpful. I'm freakin' 37 yrs old and starting the process to get my driver's licence. I have waited for way too long. In all honesty, it was procrastination and fear. I realize now that I have met countless idiots that were decent drivers. For some reason I have cultivated this idea that I would not be wise enough(too stressful) to do this. Keep it up, I really appreciate all the knowledge. Peace out and happy Canada day!

I’m not going to lie, I’ve failed a twice during my driving exam and after that I took it very seriously and started searching videos in KZbin and found your channel . I made a note of all the mistakes that I made in my past and wrote down all the mistakes in my notes , the second time when I failed the exam my examiner told me that I wasn’t shoulder checking enough at intersections and especially my blind spots when changing lanes, I was relying on side and back mirrors only , then I started watching your videos and using your tips when I was practicing and yesterday I’ve successfully passed my exam for the third time and my examiner told me that I was very attentive and praised me 🥹 I was over the moon when she told me that I’ve passed the exam 😁 Thanks you a lot for your videos and tips 🙏 It helped me a lot 😇

Should checking is crucial. I encountered a guy on a 3-wheeler yesterday that all of a sudden disappeared from my view. I didn't think he'd turned. I did a shoulder check, and he was in my blind spot. Don't assume anything. Always check.

Even if you are "sure" there won't be a car in your path, more and more you need to shoulder check to look for pedestrians staring at their phones, one-wheels, electric scooters, bikes on the sidewalks etc etc that come out of unexpected places at unexpected speeds

Shoulder checking really helps me. After failing my first road test, I was devastated and was loosing confidence. I didn’t learn how to drive in a young age and never imagined that I will be driving. I took some driving courses and it’s really a challenge for me since so don’t have anyone to rely on to teach me driving besides the driving school. After 7 months, I took the road test again and finally passed. Was so happy that day. Shoulder checking really helps me keep safe.

The analogy of vehicle to gun is so spot on because of the momentum of both. A projectile from a firearm has high momentum due to the speed of the projectile. Mass might be very small, but the momentum is its velocity times its mass and with a vehicle that is very massive, the momentum is going to be considerable against anything that it touches.

I also do shoulder checks while proceeding forward. Sometimes, traffic is so heavy that you are shifting your attention to 6 or more hazards at once, in all different places. It is easy to lose the "pacer" that pulls into your blind spot annd just stays there. You might both be going forward, but we both know that could change in a moment. The moment when you need the out. Love your videos. Always have.

I have a question. At round 1:00 you stopped on the crosswalk, is that allowed and not an automatic fail? I thought we're suppose to stop behind the crosswalk and not block it. Unless its because you had the green light so that makes it ok?

These days you are going to run across vehicles that have camera monitoring system instead of a wing mirror. They are common in Europe newer models but not in North America for trucks. There's going to be a challenge on them for shoulder checking
@smartdrivetest6 ай бұрын
You're right my friend. Observation technology erodes drivers' skills. And unfortunately, they begin to rely on that technology, when it should be viewed as just a BACKUP. Personally, I don't like that much technology on my vehicle. One thing about mirrors vs. camera - mirrors NEVER fail. All the very best, Cheers Rick
