How to shrink wrap a boat by yourself - the easy and affordable way

I started shrink wrapping my boat several years ago because I didn't want to pay the high price to have someone do it for me. It really isn't all that hard if you take your time to prep prior to putting it on the boat.

From someone who does this professionally I can say you did a great job. It does help if you put your strapping around the boat first and just tuck the wrap then heat and grab. Will save u alot of time.

My buddy has the actual heat gun. And man, they are expensive! He did my pontoon this year and told me the weed torch wouldn't work because it didn't have the wide spread end that fans the heat rather than so much direct. I guess he's wrong. You proved it! And I will be doing my own each year.

@@bucksgarage1 No! Yours is much faster! I have that gun, I'm gonna buy Harbor freight gun. I'm sure it's gonna be a learning curve, but being a "seasoned citizen" my arms and shoulders ache to the point that I do half the boat, and let my "old buddy" do the other half!

This really helps me. I am going to shrink wrap myself this year as it costs $450+ to have it done where I live. I guess you don't have to worry about snow load where you are?

I watched the Dr Shrink one with the $500 propane shrink gun and figured I could do it just as easy my way. Since my video i have gotten far better at it. Back then I felt like I needed to shrink the whole cover when in actuality you just need to shrink the loose parts and they pull the whole thing tight. Thanks for watching

Did it today, wasn't very hard. The biggest trick was getting used to the distance and heat level of the torch.

Is that your bimini top lowered on the boat that is bracing up the shrink wrap? Is it a canvas top? The dealer made a big deal of all the work framing with wood strapping to hold up the SW. He complained tha he should get a lot more money to SW!

It's just a aluminum Bimini top. On other boats I use a few 4x4s to make a tent setup.

Yes it would. I originally tried to use a heat gun but it was taking an unreasonable amount of time. I'm talking hours vs minutes.
