I am on my hair growth journey and I don't use heat on my hair. My hair has grown down to my waist from shoulder length in 16 months. In a few months, on my 2 year hair anniversary, I want to straighten my hair. But don't want to use direct heat. I think I will just roller set it. If you deep conditioner your hair you will see less damage.

My hair in the front wasn't reverting back like it's supposed to and twisting my hair became a problem so I cut my hair and started over. Now my hair is longer than b4 and I want to get it straightened but don't want the damage.

​@jnefitemayep1433 I silk press my hair every 3 months to trim my ends. What I do is wash my hair 3x. 2x with a detox or clarifying shampoo and 1x with a moisturizing shampoo. I deep condition my hair and let it sit for 30 mins. I put silicon mix bamboo leave in conditioner, Paul Mitchell skinny serum and dominican magic silk shine in my hair, then blow dry. Once my hair is blow dry completely I spray kenra silkening mist on my hair and then flat iron. I only do 1 pass and that's it. Always make sure that your hair is dry at the root. The flat iron that you use is very important. If it's too old the heat won't distribute evenly and it can cause heat damage. You also need to know how much heat your hair can take. Your flat iron should be hot enough to where you only need to do 1 pass, but not so hot to the point that you're frying your hair. Also when you wash your hair, wash the length of it too. Don't be like some of these ytbers and let the shampoo just run down the length of your hair when you're rinsing. You're not throughly cleansing your hair that way. Not throughly cleaning your hair for a silk press can cause heat damage too. I'm not saying you do that, I'm just putting it out there because I have watched videos of women not shampooing properly for a silk press and then they're upset because now they have heat damage. Dont be afraid to use heat. Heat is not a bad thing when it is used properly. You just need to learn how to use it properly. You'll get the hang of it, don't sweat it. I hope these tips will be a help to you.
