I'm a Nooby and realize that starting at 65 years of age, with the handicap of being born with two left ears, I'm never going to be a great pianist. But I'm trying to glean whatever I can since this is valuable information. And Graham made me realize that my lack of ear training is my biggest handicap. I don't have music in my head. My friend is a Professor at our local Conservatory, and he told me I need to sing. The only place I dare to try to sing is on my walks in the forest, when I'm sure no one is around. In my apartment I live on the main street, and if I start singing the police will be knocking on the door for disturbance of the peace.

The beautiful music you play is well "above my pay grade". However, the techniques you teach have been extremely helpful as well as inspiring. Your lessons make the impossible seem obtainable! Thank you.

jl5555ls you would always find fault or annoying things when you have a close mind. I am sure you or people like you do this with every person in their lives. Open your mind and accept the knowledge teacher provides. Pick whatever suits you. You complain and you deprive your brain of knowledge. And be grateful to people for teaching even a smallest thing.

WHAT a wonderful, fun way to attack a difficult new piece. I have never heard anything like it. It appeals to me a great deal. I like the idea of practising the "bones" of the piece without getting bored down trying to take it all in at the first time. Will take a new approach. I will adopt this approach from now on.

Graham Fitch is not only an excellent pianist, but a great piano teacher as well. Now, I memorized Bach's first Prelude from the Wohltemperirtes Klavier by playing it in block chords. But I never realized that I could do the same with the Second (C Minor) Prelude. Thank you, Graham. I am going to try it right away. :)

This is a great resource! Especially useful when we are learning very difficult pieces and can't wait to start enjoying them! For example, Chopin's prelude op 24 no 8 has a very beautiful harmonic progression that can be enjoyed by using this method without being able to play the entire prelude.

Excellent approach to learn a piece of music , I think we are too anxious to play everything in one stretch or to learn it as fast as we can. Thank you very much!!

Thank for sharing you're wonderful technique. Using the block chord method in the left hand is a great way to learn the musical phrases in the right hand. I am trying to use that technique with Sebastian Bach. His chord methods are extremely difficult but thank you for all you're guidance and techniques

The very first piece he plays (explaining blocking) is Bach: Prelude 1 in C Major BWV 846 from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. The second example of blocking is also Bach: Prelude and Fugue No.2 from the Well Tempered Clavier, Book 1. I just love the Prelude 1.
