How do you determine what to emphasize or even which lines to omit?

It would be perfect to use the fewest lines and strokes to express the key points you want to portray. In fact, it is difficult for us to satisfy ourselves at the beginning. We might as well try to draw the same picture again, and try to reduce or change it ,Then to compare it, you will know that many lines do not need to be drawn.

Is this kind of sketching considered art.?? Sorry for lame question I am uneducated when it comes to art..

A good question. The simple answer is yes but you have to have a definition of art first and there are many of them. Mine is the creation of something which represents reality through the skilled manipulation of a medium. By that definition this is definitely art I think.
