I loved the part where she talked about changing the key. I'm a baritone, so I often need to change the key of the songs because many of them are too high for me and even though others are not, I prefer to be comfortable, so I still change the key. I used to struggle with not having a tenor voice, but, I don't care any more, I'm beginning to accept and like the voice God gave me and focusing on getting better every day. Great advice for all of us who maybe sometimes felt like are voice wasn't enough. :)

I cannot choose the key, but my leader always chooses a good key, praise God. I always used to sing the song over and over again, too. But now I know a lot of good warm ups to do instead. I love the strategies to sound better, like wah, wah ,wah. And adding key consonant sounds to get a centered mixed voice and bringing my voice forward with a small mouth and open cavity. Thank you, Charmaine for your great lessons. I have improved my weak breathy voice into a power house voice I never knew I had. Grateful, and praising God.

How do I find out what is my key?
@worshipvocalist Жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm hoping to do a video on that in the future! In the meantime, I recommend trying out the original key and if it's too high or too low, lower or raise the key until you find somewhere that feels right for you. Ideally you want the chorus and bridge to sit in a higher range than the verses.

And, how long should a warm up last?
@worshipvocalist3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bernice! I would encourage you to go through my courses on www.theworshipvocalist.com to develop more vocal skill and help choosing keys-but in the meantime, start with the original key and determine whether you need the song higher or lower for your voice, then I would encourage you to work with a musician (keyboardist or guitarist ideally) to help you find the right key.

And in terms of a warmup, I recommend 15-20 minutes at least.

The thing I worry about with choosing a key that is comfortable for me, is that the congregation will be able to sing it too. I am an alto, but many females are sopranos.
@worshipvocalist3 жыл бұрын
The congregation will sing along with a worship leader who is singing confidently! It’s impossible to find a key that works for everyone in the congregation-so best to lead in the key that’s best for you, and let them choose whether to sing up/down the octave, sing a harmony, etc.!
@jenholland68663 жыл бұрын

Seems wrong that worship has become about " my key" .As a worship leader , to me it's about the CONGREGATION the AVERAGE range.
@worshipvocalist Жыл бұрын
Hey! I hear you. The reason I teach this is not to encourage pride, entitlement, glory, etc. The glory belongs to Jesus; none of it belongs to us as worship leaders. There is no range of notes that works well for every singer in the congregation, but in my experience, when a leader is singing in a comfortable place in their voice, they are able to lead and minister more confidently, and the congregation feels more at ease.
