At 57, and adjusting to a thyroidectomy not too long ago, as a singer with age and changes in my neck by the larynx, it's wonderful to have additional and easy helpful exercises and understanding for my soprano voice that has lately been a second soprano. BUT I'm reaching for my goals of the Ab's and such! Not because it's a note, LOL, but because some of my repertoire requires the range and I love the songs!! God bless you sweetheart! Keep up these teachings please; many many people will be singing like angels because of you! 🎼🎶😀 💚🙏💚 😇

Hi Madeleine. Just done this exercise. I listened to all the instructions and then (remarkably) did the exercises with no problem. I have always loved singing but started learning seriously from July 2017 because I thought it was time to learn how to stop my voice from breaking. I soon managed to do that with all the correct breathing. I also learned how to hold notes etc. I discovered I was Mezzo Soprano but after a matter of months both my registers had extended considerably, especially my upper register. I can sing upwards to soprano level now (I feel!) but I have been making an effort to strengthen my lower voice, being my weakest. I sing Musical Theatre mostly because I love the acting side that is involved (but I also 50s, 60s and some 70s pop because I know that voice coaches advise a singer to perform a wide range of songs and not get "stuck in a rut") but my voice is more suited to classical singing. I have now branched out into opera and have learned with voice coach instruction how to sing O Mio Babbino Caro, and I am now learning Time To Say Goodbye. So Madeleine, thank you for your help with this lesson and I hope my comments give confidence to some of your other followers. I shall do the next lesson I have on my Favourites later today.

Hi, Madeleine I just found your video. I am a Native New Yorker who grew up going to Broadway shows. I have been taking voice lessons on and off for over 40 years, and I have done quite a bit of musical theatre, from The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to Eliza in My Fair Lady. My voice was at its peak in my 40's, and although I preferred Broadway showtunes, I have sung everything from pop to opera. I used to have over a 3-octave range, and I was able to hit an E above High C with no problem; a High C was actually easy. Now, however, because I was a Flight Attendant for over ten years and constantly flying, I didn't sing that much because I was physically exhausted. I still have a very strong low and mid range; however, I can no longer hit the high notes, and I am very discouraged. I am struggling to just hit an A. Is it possible that with your vocal training, I can build my high notes back up? Or is it too late? BTW, I am now 64 years old but look 45, so I have lots of life in me yet, and I don't want to stop singing!
@mitzypinks13386 жыл бұрын
Linda S I am also a vocal teacher. A ten year break is a big one and the high range will take the whack from that. However do not lose hope all is not lost. I had a break and lost my high range too, it took me a couple of years but now my top C’s, D’s and E’s are souring out again. And I’m nailing the Allegri once again. Do lots of vocal warm ups EVERY day. Sing EVERY day can’t stress that enough , preferably a wide range of repertoire that works all of the range. Work on breathing and support. Working the lower range too, will help the higher range. So much is psychological you may be holding some tension through your jaw, face and tongue. And “thinking” you cannot sing something can be your enemy as it creates tension through the whole body. Shrug your shoulders too to make sure no tension in the upper body. As the vocal chords stretch to reach higher notes, it’s vital there is no tension so it can stretch freely. Visualisation can really help. Imagine you’re a discus thrower at the olympics and your high C is your discus. You throw it out and need lots of breath in order to do that, hold it with your brow, placement plays a huge role, imagine this note is attached to your brow via an invisible string . Your high notes will be soaring out again in no time . Love from England 🏴

Oh my goodness when you said watch an episode of Friends which I am currently watching (not exactly the same time im watching your video) I just love you even more, I just hope by "Friends" you mean the one with Monica, Phoebe, Chandler etc. Any way I was about to say this first but you got me really excited with "Friends" I just want you to know that your videos/tutorials/vocal exercises, they're helping people like me (you are helping people like me), I love singing but I can't afford a vocal coach/trainer (because third world country) I was singing in a wrong way and hurting my entire throat then I accidentally clicked one of your videos and tried to give it a shot, I'm not even searching for vocal exercise videos that time but your video is just there, all I can say is your warm ups or exercises are effective, not that I can hit a whistle tone, because my pipe is just not designed for that but I found my own sound/voice and that's the most important thing in singing, I'm no longer frustrated that I can't sing the way original artists sang it, plus I'm no longer hurting my pipes when I sing. Thank you and I really wish you all the best.
