Gergena got this right. Verse: John double tracks and harmonizes himself, Middle eight: John lower part, Paul harmonizes the upper part. Gorge sings only some minor backing vocals in this. A great piece, and thank you Frudua! (BTW: This song was originally ment to a "Ringo song" of the Beatles For Sale, but obviosly John changed his mind. The song is composed mainly by John, with the help of Paul (maybe 80/20).

I agree with your assessment that it is John doing both tracks. Although unusual to do, we see Paul do this on many tracks, so it's not unheard of. Also, at this time, John was clearly leading the group in 1964, pretty much doing everything that year. I get that Paul can imitate John's voice, but knowing their voices well, you can tell that it is John's voice on both tracks without Paul until the refrain.

@ mickavellian it often happens for artists to be protective about their original muscial ideas. I grew up with the Let it be version and I personally love it but I dig Paul getting angry on it. Where all others including legends like Freddie Mercury did cut most of the high notes live, McCartney, is the only person the whole world to be able to sing at his age a full 3 hours concert singing the Beatles songs in the original key and placing in the songs more high notes than there are in the originals. There's no way that the true greatness of McCartney will ever be understood in his total a REAL dimension and importance. In the next centuries he will be reminded like Beethoven or Bach or Mozart for his own hera.

I also adore this song! Have you guys ever noticed how country-sounding this song is? I don't like country music, but the Beatles were very much influenced by American country/western/blues styles. It pops up frequently throughout their sing writing careers. But I noticed it on "I Don't Want To Spoil the Party" when I was adding a 3rd harmony. When I do a 3rd harmony part, I often hear more of the country structure in the chord progressions and rhythms. They just sing them a bit faster, like Elvis sped up the Blues, imitating some early black singers who really created rock and roll.

Gale is right, Paul mimics John, the way you can is some of Paul's 'S' sounds are kind of pronounced as a slight 'sh', this can be heard on a lot of songs. Paul doesn't always sing the letter S that cleanly. That's my interpretation
@piggly-wiggly5 жыл бұрын
I just heard this song the remastered version of the song. There was debate in the comments about the low harmony on the verses so I had to jump over here to get the expert's take. Most were saying it was either double-tracked John or George on the low part. I didn't think it was George and I still find it hard to believe it's Paul. I don't doubt Paul's ability to mimic John, since he uses lots of different voices in his songs. What I can't figure out is why the band would do it that way. John was known to double-track, so why wouldn't he just sing the low part himself in a second track? That's what I don't get. Why would Paul mimic John in a part he was perfectly capable of singing himself? The high harmony, I believe, would've been hard for John; but not the low harmony.
@craigsmith10424 жыл бұрын
piggly-wiggly Maybe they liked to mess with people’s heads? The verse is not so high that John can’t sing it (unlike say If I Fell). There’s very few songs in the early days they didn’t both or with George all sing. Can’t Buy Me Love is one. All My Loving another. (Paul does both high and low on the record.) Paul probably didn’t want to sing high harmony again so just sang low. Chorus is a bit high for John so they swapped.
Your correct. The assertion from this expert is wrong. I've been listening to this since a kid in 1970s and Ive never listened to it as closely as I do today. The second vocal is John. He sings both parts. It ain't Paul.

Galeazzo, I just listened Strawberry Fields Forever in Mono for the first time (all the time I listened stereo version) and I like mono better in this one, but something's confusing me. I like very much drumming in the chorus of stereo version, but in mono version sounds different, not that powerful. Did they maybe put another drum track on mono version or what ?
@TheBeatlesVocalHarmony10 жыл бұрын
Jesse Pinkman Think to the drum as a sum of parts each of them containing an amount of sound pressure and volume. If you stack all of them one over the other you get 100% of volume (mono version all at 12o'clock). If you divide them and place them in a stereo pan in different positions, you still have quite the same volume but the sound impact (pressure) is splitted in multiple parts and get lost. This is why a lot of us prefers the impact of the mono versions. :)

I love your videos but I'm going to disagree in one thing, in the verses the two voices belong to John. Great job

A couple of writers actually quote George Harrison as the lower harmony and he might as well be.

I disagree they did duets when they were younger per se. Maybe once or twice. Also, I cannot support that opinion of who sings what. Paul is in the verse doubling the higher with John. If not, then why is the "switch" in the 2nd part so seamless in the lower? Because it's John. PS, love your work, follow and enjoy it all the time.

The lower voice sounds like Paul. He has a softer voice than John.
