This aria is regarded as a masterpiece, reflecting the artistic pinnacle of vocal classics. When I actually listen to it, it reminds me of a certain serial drama. Its ability to evoke memories or associations with a television drama illustrates the profound impact that visual media can have on our perception of music. The power of television to influence and alter our emotional response to music is indeed formidable, demonstrating that music transcends mere sound to become a catalyst for powerful emotions and memories.

This is among my favorites arias. How fascinating the way you break it down, not only for ease in learning, but as to the structure and mechanics of the language and vocalizations. Now when I hear this performed, as well as other pieces, I will more appreciate the study and due diligence, as well as interpretation, a soloist puts into the art. Thank you. (I am not a singer, but a musician of sorts, and appreciate most forms of music.)

Handel used the same melody ( to a sarabande dance rhythm) in his earlier composition "The triumph of time and truth" but to a different set of words "Lascia la spina prendi la rosa" - which means "take the rose but leave the thorn.' The same composition includes another one of Handel's most sublime tunes - right at the end "Tu dal ciel ministro eletto".

This is so helpful. Your teaching methods are marvelous. I do have a question about the vowels. I am beginning to get a nice round tone on most of the vowels but the “eh” sound just doesn’t sound good. Any hints for working on this? Thank you for all you do.

Hey there! So glad you're finding the videos helpful. I'm guessing you mean "eh" as in the open "e" in words like "bed" and "men"? It could be that your mouth shape is a bit too wide. Try singing an "ooh" on one note, and slowly transitioning to an "eh" sound whilst maintaining the "ooh" mouth shape. Hopefully, you'll find a sound for the "eh" which you'll like better. Let me know how you get on! 😀

Well, yes....BUT avoiding the hard "G" on a beat which could accidentally be emphasized when sung is critical (for me, where beauty is paramount). I've listened to so many singers, and find the soft G (as in "sing") so much more appealing, and musically superior. This is also how I have been coached in opera houses, and it's actually hard to find recordings of professional singers using a hard G in this context. Phonetically, I'm using sɪŋ as in "sing" quite deliberately. I'm always happy to be proved wrong as I'm certainly not infallible...but on this particular "G" , we might have to agree to differ! 😁🎶❤️
@baritonfelix
@baritonfelix 5 ай бұрын
@@singingtips1 I have yet to hear any Italian pronounce it /ˈpjaŋa/, which contains no /g/ consonant at all but a velar nasal. The ŋ sound (as in singer) is still needed for a correct pronunciation since /n/ assimilates to the following /g/, but this last must also be enunciated clearly (as Cecilia Bartoli does beautifully). For my money, omitting the plosive consonant to avoid stressing a syllable is to throw the baby out with the bathwater since what comes out is not correct Italian.
@singingtips1
@singingtips1 5 ай бұрын
@@baritonfelix Hi. You're absolutely correct...but I'm sticking to my guns. 😁 This is a channel for ALL levels of singer, and in this instance, I think my approach is a lot less intimidating and achieves a beautiful compromise. 😁🎶

Your pronunciation in Italian is so poor not very well done. Specially the word “pianga” you have to pronounce the “g”.
@singingtips1
@singingtips1 4 күн бұрын
@@estanislaomasia7379 Hi. Thanks for watching and commenting. I have a very specific reason for the softer "G". Having taught dozens of singers how to sing this aria, a hard "G" invariably causes an inexperienced singer to accent the entire syllable. Beauty of sound always comes first for me. 😁🎶

@@lucymjay That's why I recommend all my students get language coaching. Singing and speaking a language are 2 very different things.
