Ken, I am always amazed at vocalist Brad Delp from Boston. That song is the reason I bought their album years ago and then continued following Boston. Your rendition is pretty much spot on and your insight is great. Love the way you can break a song down to it's basic components, teach it, and put it back together. I always wished I had the voice for that high pitch.

You sure don't hear vocals like that in modern music...sadly. I was expecting this to sound more like Ken Tamplin singing Brad Delp, but if I were to close my eyes and listen to this I might be lead to believe it really was Delp singing. Great job, man!

Ken, if you check out Brad's live singing performances when he wasn't with Boston, singing in small venues, you will hear a much different Brad Delp. He sang very chesty, very powerfully live. Check out his "Oh Darling" cover when he had the Beatles' Tribute band. He also has some Blues vocals demonstating a much thicker, punchier sound. He's one of my all-time favorites as well. I studied his voice a lot.

Hi Ken, Your work is amazing, Your channel was recommended randomly to me even though I wasn't 100% looking for a singing coach, (Technology is so sneaky), I mean I thought about it but, dismissed the thought and then you happened on my feed. Anywho. I did watch one of your videos back on December 27, which was very informative, and nothing I've ever been subjected to even with the sham of a music teacher available in my third-world country environment. It blew my mind that you could teach someone to extend their vocal range, note so effortlessly, achieve a smooth higher pitch, etc, etc. And as awesome as that tutorial was, I figured I'm past the learning curve. A month and some later, I am feeling inspired and your videos keep popping up on my feed so here's my honest plea to you. Yikes "sooooooo , when I was younger I could easily sing the song "O Holy Night" my favorite holiday song, By Mariah Carey among many of her other chart-toppers easily without training and hitting those exquisite peaks angelic highs, I believe they are called falsettos, I may be wrong. Fast forward 25 years later (not treating my vocal cords with respect) I've found that I can still carry a note and excel at many of her songs, except the song I treasure most, O Holy Night. What do you recommend? I am willing to give up listening to anything she sang after the year 1998 unless it relates to her original essence. I just want to be able to hit those notes smoothly and easily as I did before. It's a bit of an embarrassment when it becomes a squeak or cuts off in the middle of hitting the whistle. I hope I'm not coming off as a douche. I really just want my vocal range back. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

My favorite song in the world (even tho RUSH is my favorite band). Thanks for this walk-through... Brad is just at another level in terms of tone and precision, but still like a soul-singer in a rock format. I don't think he hit the 'g' in 'feelinnn' and 'dreaminnnn' which changes how those phrases end in the chorus... I think you'd need to talk to John Boylan, who actually re-recorded and mixed the vocals from the first album (vs. the following releases which were just about all done in Tom's basement). I used to do abit of contract work for these guys, so I'm a total nerd on how the demos were made (which are on KZbin), the albums, Brad's other projects, etc. 🙂🙃

So much to learn here. I appreciate the info on holding a note longer. I have figured out that words like “way”, are a lot easier to hold based upon how to sing it. E, I, A, are much easy to compress (which I find a great description) vrs. The O, or Ah. You killed it Ken! Well done. I have always thought that the guitar took over the note but you have corrected me. Boston, when they came on the scene, was one of a handful of my go to rock bands. Thanks.

Lord Jesus, Ken !!! That is just amazing. You killed it. Even without Scholz's processing & studio tricks. Been singing it in the shower & my cars ( not at the same time LOL ) since 76'. But you squashed my hopes of ever replicating it, due to the confirmation from Micki ( Barry Goudreau's Sister in Law ) that Scholz also punched the studio cut like a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Brad was known as such a great guy " We just lost the nicest guy in Rock n Roll ". MTAF ROCKS, yet I always liked his vocals in " Peace of Mind, & Man I'll never be " more. But everything he did was just beautiful & legendary. Rest in Peace ✝️, Bradley Delp PS - did u wk w Tommy DeCarlo ? Clearly someone did, & he got really close 2Album Brad, live.

Great take on Delp from Boston. Definitely a 70s icon up there with Gillian, Coverdale, Dio, and Gramm. Foreplay/Long Time was actually my favorite off the first 1976 album. Great memories. I was a single 22 year old rookie police officer in Des Moines, IA. I'd get off work at 7am, grab a Pabst or Bud from the fridge (Miller Lite was first light beer and about a year old and not yet mainstream ... also was more expensive) and put the LP on the turntable to wind down. Super, super vocals and guitar. Thanks for breaking it down with your flawless cover regardless of your other work that day. Keep em coming. Ever had a high and tight or a buzz cut ✂️ 😆 Thanks again.

Hey ken, Love love love the Boston album! Grew up listening to it and was exposed to it from my uncle ….it’s really interesting getting a little history on the band I read that Tom sholtz was turned down by the record companies 5-6 times and each time he kept refining the recordings to where they couldn’t deny that it was a great record. Also I’m not sure how tom discovered brad but I do know when he heard him he said he was like a songbird the with the most beautiful voice and the rest is history…. Love your version of the song and again thanks for breaking it down 😊

Re: the gentleness required of the intro: David Gilmour of Pink Floyd is like that, too. Although he can "rock out", a lot of his vocals require a gentle, almost "breathy" tone..."Fat Old Sun", "A Pillow of Winds", "Comfortably Numb", much of his solo work...
