I think George had the 'key voice' that made them recreate such beautiful harmonies, in almost every song. it's a very particular voice, that fits perfectly with Pauls high voice and John singing lower notes. Simply fantastic. And thank you Galleazo. What you do is pure Magic. Cheers from Argentina

Joel Benseñor I absolutely agree I have long thought that’s George’s vocals have been hugely underrated in the sound the group achieved
@kirbygene4 жыл бұрын
Agree! Paul and John took the more obvious lines in these 3 parters. George was squeezed into the middle, picking his notes carefully so they don't duplicate the other's notes. "Because" is another great example of this.
@@bryanblandon johns harmony is at 2:23 and at 7:13, georges are at 3:18 and 6:41, pauls at 4:13 and 7:47, so whats the issue?

It's when you dissect it like this that you realize how incredible The Beatles were, especially to be able to perform harmonies as complex as this, whilst playing instruments with often complicated chord structures and licks plus superbly clever bass lines...live with NO monitors and a cacophony of screaming teenage girls to contend with. They were truly amazing artists...who wrote fantastic timeless songs.

Every year or so I come back to listen to this video and every year it’s a reminder of how underrated George’s vocals were (by many) in the early years. They are all great here but George’s part is something else. It just goes to show, over the course of their career their songwriting just got better and better but their harmonies were spot on from the start. Just wonderful work and the breakdown and performance here is stunning too! Bravo!

@05:12- question: is this the earliest instance of this characteristic downward third vocal glissando that you've found? To me, this musical gesture is so absolutely gorgeous and when I heard it in God Only Knows, I thought to myself "aha!! This is what Paul was talking about (or one of the things) when he referred to the influence of Brian Wilson on him" - but This Boy is 1963 - well before Pet Sounds. So the question is - what's the earliest example you can think of by The Beatles or anyone else that has this? I mean - not just a downward gliss - I mean with this special emotional hook as used so often later.

Kevin Moore The Beatles had been following The Beach Boys for quite some time, who were super influenced by the Four Freshman. Chances are they were imitating either group’s work up until then
@ReSistaNceCitizenX3 жыл бұрын
I know this is a 6 year old comment but I agree with the other guy. The biggest influences for their harmonies are from 'Beach Boys' and 'Four Freshmen' around that time. Edit to add: Also early R&B/Pop groups, such as The Ronettes, that had incredible harmonies and music

@johnmaer2 жыл бұрын
It is actually very interesting to think about how one of their earliest tunes was perhaps one of their most vocally complex and beautiful because of the parallel harmony tracks with slight variation in vocal tone. This Boy was a reflection of the ballad arrangements and their catchy vocals in the early 1960's in the USA, maybe Europe. I'm guessing The Beatles were listening to the American music scene at the time and came up with their take on the pop ballad, which was indeed iconic. It kind of set a sad tone in A Hard Day's Night for the Ringo character......in any event, great vocals by the 3 lads, good job by Mr. Galeazzo. Bravo, sir!

@LeChaunce11 жыл бұрын
The verse chords are just D - Bm - Em - A7, repeated. When you transition to the bridge, play a Dsus4, then D and D7 (George plays a D9). The bridge ("middle eight") is G - F#7 - Bm - D7 - G - E7 - A7.
