@Michelle - 👍 So well said! The only thing I would like to add is that not only is Alicia helping so many riders - but she is equally helping the horses ♥️🐎♥️. So many riders use pressure with almost no release, but also, hopefully will reduce the amount of riders kicking (incessantly) horses or even worse, the 'dinosaurs' who still use a crop because they have failed to help their horse understand what they're asking for! Bless you for all of this wonderful education.

Your excitement is catchy. It really gives me the energy to give everything a try and this banana thing really works. I have just cantered at a jump because I felt I could control the request to canter and my turns in canter so much better now. Our canter stride is also far more controlled and less flat, it is so comfortable. Thank you and please don’t stop sharing. Waou another epiphany ..i was confused with the banana but when you've described the distribution of the weight and our job is to somewhat compensate... it was like " but of course" ! it's like a system of "balance" if he leans on one side , the rider needs to "slightly compensate" on the other side for the equilibrium .. or perhaps i am getting it all wrong as i am a little lost with the "hole" analogy and the banana 🤔 You're a born teacher Alicia and a delightful one : breaking it down this way , it's brillant

Excellent explanation as always, my horse leans on the outside rein going to the left, she puts all her weight on this rein and try's to bend her head to the left to much, the only thing i can do is is give her a light rein so it does not deaden my arm, any suggestion or maybe a video on this, thanks 😁 this does improve as the lesson progresses but any suppling exercise advice would be greatly appreciated
@YourRidingSuccess
@YourRidingSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! good question, what this means is the horse is leaning more heavy on the right shoulder, so you may need to use some counter flexion when going to the left so you essentially straighten out the horse. Watch this Mowgley playlist and especially watch the early work in the round yard and then the work in the arena and all through these videos it shows you how to supple a horse that is not even (Mowgley also looks too much left and leans a bit right shoulder) kzbin.info/aero/PLilNDMqFJS_CVtqt5n2YyQRerenQr-XKQ

That was really an excellent analogy and very helpful. This channel has really improved in my opinion since you took over. Is there any chance of you doing a video of how to start teaching a horse to move into the bend ie first steps in traver or half pass as opposed to moving away from the bend in a leg- yield. My horses immediately straighten and seem to struggle with it but it is more likely pilot error.Maybe some prelim exercises that help the horse get the concept etc.Many thanks

In the video you described fixing a horse that is leaning in the half pass by doing intermittent leg yield. What about a horse who is bending too much in the leg yield? Can you help correct it by doing half pass? Or should you just take a few straight steps then go back into leg yield?

@YourRidingSuccess

Hi Peter, this is a great question! To make a secure lower leg the trick to have a position in the saddle that is "standing on the ground" (watch this video where Alicia explains standing on the ground position kzbin.info/www/bejne/p32bpKqeh7CMa9U) when you have this position your leg will be very secure down each side of the horse because of your stability in the saddle. it makes sense im still trying to master this ! does the banana stay the same way round? im a bit confused, its not you its me (old brain) ive understand the canter where to sit ribcage bigger on the outside 😁 but confused regarding leg yield or half pass as to which way round the banana is 🙈 🍌is it the same for both? Tina xx
@YourRidingSuccess
@YourRidingSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tina! Great questions! The banana is not always the same way! In the half pass the inside rib cage is little and the outside rib cage is bigger. In leg yield, for a test there isn't bend but as you increase the levels you can use leg yield to improve suppleness so some leg yield exercises will have a bend- have a watch of this video where Alicia shows visually this concept in more detail -kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpiteWOvjtiNiK8

Where do you sit when you are just trying to keep your horse on the rail in the corners?? Where is the inside of the banana?
@YourRidingSuccess
@YourRidingSuccess 8 ай бұрын
So when you are trying to keep your horse on the rails you are always sitting over the backbone - so imagine you are sitting over the backbone. So even with the banana shape, we are still sitting directly over the backbone. It's just because the outside rib cage is bigger, there's a bigger surface area and you often get pushed over to that side. Hope that helps!

I’m a new older rider (I won’t mention my age and I could sort of follow along but I think the banana and what it represents could’ve been better described at the f beginning is as some times you have it flat and somethings up. You also say to sit to the the inside again as a beginner I’m not sure I follower, do mean sit more heavily to one side or to physically move your butt to the other side of the saddle. Maybe sitting on a saddle that’s not on a horse may have helped us novices a bit more. I’ll watch again on a few more months and maybe it’ll make more sense .

I’m confused. I was told to sit on the weight bearing legs which is not always on the small side of the banana. For example canter the small side of the banana is the legs that lift up and lead but the weight bearing legs are on the paired legs not the leading leg? Im confused now 🥺
@YourRidingSuccess
@YourRidingSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kylie, in this video Alicia explains the reason for sitting in the small part of the banana is to allow the horse's ribcage to expand on the "big" side. This is a much more simple way of working out where to have your weight, rather than trying to work out where the legs are and which ones are weight bearing x

I have 2 trainers telling me the opposite about what to do when going in a circle with opening the door on the rains. When trying to flex the horse's neck one is telling me to use open door on the inside traveling left and 1 is telling me to use the open door on the outside traveling leftraveling left it really has me confused.

@@YourRidingSuccess There have been a lot of really helpful videos on this channel through the years, and I think the new content is also going to help a lot of people with both their riding and their horsekeeping. I'd love to hear your thoughts on dealing with riding fear. However I think my very favourite video has to be the announcement of the big contest. A lot of people struggle to afford to be able to ride, or don't have access in their area to the quality of horse/instructor they want. Not only do I believe this channel should and can reach a million subscribers, but if we can do it together, there's one person on this earth whose riding dream will come true. I think that's so exciting and moving. I hope they'll let us see some of their journey but even if they don't, just knowing that someone out there will be so lucky and happy and excited makes me happy. I'm so excited for whoever it is. If I have to pick one of the videos of normal content, then I'll go with Horse Banana. It's such a helpful and simple way to improve technical skill and understanding. I'm excited to give it a try next ride. I tend to fuss too much with my hands, but horses have always responded really well to my intent and my weight. My dream is to be one of those riders with no bridle and no stirrups, haha :P

My horse is left bended so on the left hand she falls out on the shoulder to the right. Then i need to sit on the inside right? I tried but makes it worse. When i sit on the outside shes not bulging out that much. What do i wrong😋
@YourRidingSuccess
@YourRidingSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Melanie, you need to also have control of the horses shoulders, so think about "train tracks" and you need to have the horses head in the middle of its chest always so it is not out of balance. Then you will find it easier to sit in the right place 💕
