I've just come across your instructional videos. I have only seen a few so far but it's clear that you are an intelligent fellow, as well as a highly skilled skier/instructor) who can concisely focus attention on the fundamental aspects of what you are teaching. You obviously think through and plan your videos with great care. The commentary that accompanies your videos meshes well thus producing a very polished product for your "students" to view, listen to and most importantly understand. Bravo!

Useful to see at about the 4:00 minute point, how the knee of the inside ski pushes out as part of the turn. I am so pre-conditioned to emphasize the movement of the outside ski (which results in the A frame), so this part of the video was particularly useful to me.

Good video thank you for posting. Please consider posting details on gloves, mittens or a gadget that will help a carver not wear out on our gloves , mittens well before rest of the glove or mittens

Great video, I’ve subscribed, I’m a beginner to intermediate trying to learn how to carve, I can do it through some of the turn but for whatever reason I’m still skidding through parts of the turn and I don’t think I have that stable upper body yet, I’m doing a learn to carve course weekly at my local dry slope though and putting in the practice I native that I’m trying to propel my skis out side to side as this looks like what a pro skier does but all that does is puts my weight away from the skis
@JoshuaDuncanSmith Жыл бұрын
If you are taking lessons to help you achieve your goal of carving then that is fantstic, keep doing that! You are right it is important to establish balance on the outside ski prior to moving the body too far inside the turn, then when the skis travel out you will be connected and stable helping you travel out with them.

@@JoshuaDuncanSmiththanks. Yes I’ve got a ski holiday in Les 2 Alpes over the Christmas week and want to put in the time and practice before I go. This will be my 4th/5th ski holiday - I started skiing as an adult

Try to put your weight on your lower ski about 80 percent. Once you get your downhill ski engaged put 20 percent on your upper. Remember, push forward with your shins, Do NOT lean forward with your body. Once you get your uphill ski, you will feel more stable. Also if you don’t see your skis at a huge angle in this video, don’t worry. It is not always that big.

It looks so easy, but when you on the slopes it is a total different story. I haven’t figure out how to do the railroad track turn yet.
@JoshuaDuncanSmith Жыл бұрын
Keep practacing, remember that the goal is two lines behind you so feel as though you are using equal amounts of tipping actions with both legs. good luck and let me know how you go.

@@JoshuaDuncanSmith thanks man, I will remember that. Your short turn is my top favorite. Keep making video, you are the best of the best.

Thanks for the video. As someone who skis occasionally, and can do some American Blues, I'm finding my thighs (quads) are getting sore rather quickly. Some are telling me I'm sitting too far back in my stance (and I probably am...will be working on that this winter). But I find that I'm not bending like the video suggests (ie not letting gravity do the work) but rather twisting my legs to achieve the turn. Could that be part of the problem as well?
@JoshuaDuncanSmith Жыл бұрын
Hey, I would say that if you have buring quads after a run it is most likely due to sitting back in your stance but I have never seen you ski so it's hard to tell exactly. When it comes to the bending the skis to help you carve a turn, if you are currently twisting the skis and steering the turn (its perfectly fine to do that) then trying to bend the skis and carve the turn is a good higher performance level you should aim to achieve this season.

Are the holes in the tips a marketing gimmick or do they make a difference?
@JoshuaDuncanSmith Жыл бұрын
They say it is for vibration control in the tip of the ski...I have seen SL skis from Fischer this year with no hole so possibly they will be moving away from the hole at the tip. I think they do it because they can!

Carving is fun but it is only a part of skiing well. Ski the entire mountain and adjust your technique as necessary. Good informative video however.
