I have three cats and when they scream I scream back at them so whenever Sandwich yelled I had to resist the urge to just "MEOOOOOOW" At my phone

As everyone else has said. Thank you for making this. I just lost my keeper dutch kit last night and, well...I still want him as my keeper lol

Can I ask, is it easier to skin when the specimen is frozen? I've never seen that method before.
@Taxidermy1014 жыл бұрын
It's actually harder... But if you're willing to struggle through it, it keeps the pelt cold and minimizes any chance of hair slippage.

@@Taxidermy101 Ok that makes sense, I guess there's pros and cons for every method, thanks :-)

Is there a reason why you wouldn’t case skin the animal? Is it personal preference or does dorsal skinning make mounting easier?
@Taxidermy1014 жыл бұрын
Yes. In this case, I did a dorsal cut because rabbit skin is so thin and easily torn. Less seams and cut surface means less chance of tearing skin.

Is the skin of the domestic rabbits still just as thin and delicate as the wild rabbits? I always ran into issues with the wild rabbit's skin being too tin.

Wild rabbits are soooo much more delicate. Domestics usually have thicker tougher skin and a much more forgiving layer of fat.

Is this easier done with a frozen specimen or?
@Taxidermy101 Жыл бұрын
Definitely easier fresh!

when my rabbit dies (hopefully of old age) i want to get him taxidermied
@laurabelcher78883 жыл бұрын
So for rabbits is it easier to skin while partly frozen because of the thin skin? Like less chance of accidentally ripping it
@Taxidermy1013 жыл бұрын
This is debatable. I personally find that the fresher the specimen (regardless of what species), the easier the skinning.

This has probably been answered, but how do you keep an animal carcass from smelling/decomp before you can taxidermy it? I’d love to learn but bc of a childhood trauma the smell of dead animal turns my stomach. I worked in a funeral home and sewed up autopsied bodies and it never bothered me (they were “fresh” when done) so I’m curious how these are stored prior to being worked on
@AlterBoi012 жыл бұрын
Usually keeping it in a freezer stops it from decomposing, you gotta get em in quick though
@Taxidermy101 Жыл бұрын
The freezer is your best friend. Just like handling raw meat in the kitchen, the faster you can get it cool and keep it cool, the longer it will stay fresh.

This reminds me of a rabbit my dad shot (the rabbit was wild and I think we ate it). Me and my sister wanted the eye of the rabbit so dad popped it out and when we had the eye we took it to mom to show it XD We were also still living in our old house so I was less than 7 years old
