I have a Cannondale 400, I initially had it set up waaay to high for speed. It's already a big bike at 58 cm. But I dropped the stem and it was literally like riding a new bike. Everything came alive, it's speed, responsiveness, even the sound. I was putting out power before and it felt like the bike took forever to move forward. Bike felt heavy and slow. But now! Wow, it's like night and day.

agreed on everything you just said - some bikes were just meant to have a slammed stem

I do enjoy the tech of "today's" bikes but I love the simplicity of your setups. Nothing beats that clean look. I currently ride a 120mm stem on my road bike and I've been looking at a 130mm. I may have to pick one up from eBay and try it out. Beautiful Bikes and Great video Brother! #RobbArmstrong

It helps to angle the nose down on the seat when going to a slammed stem.

Slamming your stem makes you LESS aerodynamic. The most aerodynamic position on the bike is when your arms are at 90 degrees on the hoods and your head is just slightly above your shoulders. Why? because this is the position with the smallest frontal area you can get. DON"T SLAM YOUR STEM! In my case I raised it slightly and I feel a tad faster
@samtb3112
@samtb3112 3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Higher stem makes your position more vertical and thus, gives your body a bigger area that has friction with air. This means that you’re less aerodynamic with a higher stem. However, having your arms at a 90° angles is far more comfortable for your body so you might be able to achieve more watts, explaining why you might feel faster when your stem is higher.

@@samtb3112 raising your stem doesn't make you more verticl, slamming your stem does. Try it out for yourself in a mirror and you'll see

@@eljamo93 hahaha ok I’ll stop arguing with you it’s a lost cause. Just look at all the pros (tour de France,etc) and tell me that their stems aren’t slammed. I think you need to check your sources buddy. Have a good day!

@@samtb3112 are they able to ride on their hoods with their arms at a 90' angle? yes, all of them can do this. Pros are pros for a reason, because they are genetic freaks. You should absolutely lower your stem as low as you can while still being able to achieve this position comfortably. MOST people CANNOT get into this position with such a low stem. So for MOST people, a slammed stem is NOT a good idea. Look at lance armstrong for example, or Chris Horner. They definitely do not slam their stems yet they are extremely talented bike riders. The bikes they rode had tall headtubes and even then they rode with spacers. Look at Rohan Dennis' TT position, or Tony Martin's, or Primoz Roglic's. Their arms are quite high on the bars and they are some of the fastest TTers out there.

in summary, you ride slammed bc the frames were manufactured to have ZERO spacers on the head tube, which improves handling and control and speed (and also bc it looks better ;))

stupidity based on zero understanding in aerodynamics. slamming stems is npt beneficial at all -- ideal position is with elbows bent at 90 degrees.

shredneck I can actually, get into this stupid position if I wanted to - as I said, for solo rides, slamming stems is a sign of ignorance and stupidity - TT position is all I have to say to people with average IQ who are about the follow your stupidity and cut steerers. Not to mention you destroyed the resale value of your bike.

@@yohl6538 on your planet it's a sign of stupidity - in reality where most of us reside, this is the fastest position and why 95% of the peloton has their bikes set up this way - enjoy being slow!

@@unclespliff_productions dude look at TT Pro positions. All pros close the frontal area by becoming a ball. They don’t go as low as possible anymore. Also cranks are weirdly shortening too to open up hips. Things are evolving. Funny I say this, bc I have a slammed stem on my CX Crux with Sram force hoods which works great for me. On the road tho I’m not slammed.

@@unclespliff_productions you are confused. reality is not the mental kindergarten where people who didn't go to school reside. I recommend you have a look at current pro TT bike setup (hint- not slammed) before you encourage people to trash their bicycles, and destroy forks.
