Personally I think the metallic speedpaints still need some time at the drawing board. Absolutely love the idea and that army painter seems to be pushing the envelope with it, but it comes out too..... grainy(?)for my taste. One of the things I love about speedpaint is how smooth it comes out. The gold speedpaint I think is the closest to being done, but I feel like the others need some tweaking. Now, that being said, I love that they're doing it and already the ease of applying it and how it flows looks phenomenal. Just not quite tp finished product yet in my opinion. Keep bringing us these awesome videos! Love this whole endeavor with the pdt.

I agree. I know Army Painter are working with a newer version than we have! Just wanted to try out where we’re at currently! Hopefully be a few more iterations for us to all feedback on first! I’ll keep you posted, and keep feeding back! Thanks for the feedback :-)

@@fatapplesauce the grainy texture comes from Mica as the reflective ingredient. These use the most expensive powdered aluminium.

With mostly metal colors I previously only just painted black, then drybrush up to a very high silver and use speedpaints over them to get different metallics. But I'm really excited with the metal speedpaints since what I hate most with metallics is how stiff they are and getting an even, easy to spread coat would be fantastic.

I never really minded metallics until Contrast and Speedpaint existed. Now they became the slowest most tedious part for me. These metallic Speedpaints make that bit fun again. It’s quick and consistent. As we can see on the final test, you can even see the gold and silver pretty well over black! These might just be the way I always paint quick metallics going forwards

@@WatchItPaintIt most metallic paints use Mica but these use Aluminium. More expensive, but much better. So they aren't a kind of "watered down" metallic paint with a compromise finish for speed. On the contrary they are higher quality than most paint-type metallics.

Very nice experiment! For the last one i'd have gone all-in and use your brightest silver instead of white for the drybrush for a Metal-chop, but i don't think in the end it matters that much. Nice paints!

Very nice. It would be nice for Army Painter to suggest a highlight color using their acrylic range should someone want to punch up the models little more after using speed paint.

maybe with a little speedpaint medium giving you a thinner coat the contrat would show through more, but they did say this is more of a two-tone finish than the three-tone finish of the main line

I need to do some updated chop slip videos. I actually use it quite a lot lately for enabling painting every single day! Brush on primer is really good for it when it’s dark or raining and I can’t be bothered to go out and prime! Definitely need to do some lighting videos. I was playing with the pastels earlier to see if we can cheat anything out with them!

I'd like to see the difference between these metallic SpeedPaints vs just mixing your own with SpeedPaint medium and metallic warpaint. I've been having really good results and by mixing metallic warpaint with SpeedPaint medium and then gravelord grey for silver and Fire Giant orange or zealot yellow for gold. Other than the minimal time saving of it being premade for you of course.

You’re spot on, this’ll take a while. But they will be very keen to get this product to the world! If we remember the original Speedpaints were about 4 months from seeing the first production bottles to selling… I would guess based on that!

Went to my FLGS and they told me I was wrong, that these paints do not exist. As I stood right next to their full Army Painter display holding the entire product line of regular, air brush and speed paints.

How does this measure up against the "Best Gold Paint Recipe" (3:2 Sand Golem:Zealot Yellow, done over silver) from a week ago?

Quicker :-D with Mike in Canada and myself in the UK I can’t put them side by side :-( but his is going to look a lot nicer but mine took all of a minute to do the gold :-D really depends what you’re looking for when you come to paint each specific mini! I also really like snakebite leather over a silver primer, that’s fast and looks really good. But not as fast as this!

The speedpaint gold looks really good over a bright silver undercoat, but I'd still be tempted to use a wash like Agrax Earthshade Gloss or maybe the new Agrax wash mixed with some Reikland Fleshshade, just to get a little extra contrast. Metal colors need a strong contrast to really give the impression that they are reflective.

To me it's a bit too subtle for the metallics - I can see it a change in the contrast, very very lightly...when I throw down the copper and I still have to throw down a dark wash (strong tone/nuln oil/oil wash) to get recess shading for it then it defeats the purpose for me. It just seems like a very thinned metallic, which I do personally like - currently I use Vallejo Metal Colours just because of how thinned they are out of the pot

I'm still not sure if metallic Speedpaints are a good idea. I do use Speedpaints over vallejo air metallics (the best) all the time and it looks great but from what I've seen of AP isn't great. I hope they manage to get out a good product in the end.

How good are Armypainter Metallic Speedpaints? Vince Venturella is a fan. For those of you who don't know, Vince Venturella has a famously longstanding strong dislike of metallic paints. These paints converted him.

Not quite true, Vince likes the VMC paints because they look more like actual metal and have good coverage. Army Metallic Speed paints also do (but not as much as VMC), which is why he likes them. This is still an accomplishment, but it's important comtext.

Hmm to be completely honest, I am not a fan of these metallics. At least on video, the finish seems to be really matt with some metal flakes in it, which leads the metal look kinda old and dull. And most non army painter metallics already cover in more or less one coat (at least the ones from AK and Vallejo) and are still shiny.

Oh I should add, while the contrast needs work IMHO, the speed and ease of using these metallics is no gimmick. I believe I’ve heard some other brands (vallejo air) are just as quick and easy to use, but I don’t own any of that and like that these will be more accessible for people
